When you log into Online TurboTax, have you gone through some preliminary questions and selected a 2021 Online product? You don't actually have to use the 2021 product in order to get past returns, but you may have to answer a few preliminary screens and select a product (you don't have to use or pay). Then try to download the past return by going to the Tax Home and scrolling down to "Your Tax Returns & Documents."
I have all my TurboTax files and data on my PC. Some past years are missing. I need to print out the data I transferred into each year to finish the new year. Now I have lost a few files and I need to know how to print out the files that were loaded into the next years taxes.
I have seen I can print out up to 5 years previous tax data but it is not a full copy of what was input from a previous year. I need to know all the items I can print out about a previous years returns. For example I have all of 2009 and 2011 but I'm missing so 2010 and 2008.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for you message but all of my files are on my PC and none are online at Intuit. I have use TurboTax since 1985 but everything prior to 2008 is missing. However I was able to print out 5 years of my data from 2013 TTax program. I would like to get any Tax Data files I could get from those files. I have 2009, 2011, 2012 on my PC.
Sorry,..but I don't have any of my data online at Turbotax. All my past data is on my PC. I'm missing 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2017.
Since I never have put any data online,..that won't help. It would be improbable to get a tax return back from the Govt. I filled my 2020 tax via mail and 5 months later they sent me a note and said they did not receive my taxes. Yet in the same letter they said they were giving me credit for the check I sent them. They wanted me to "REDO" all my taxes and submit them to a new account in Ohio. I fould out the did the same thing to 50,000,000 tax payers.
Please send me the link to turbotax , I am not finding My Turbo Tax, My Tax Timeline.
thanks,
How to Access prior year online returns
https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/00/270...
If you can't get the side menus to open up to access the prior year..... You need to start entering some basic Personal Info in 2021 for the side menu to open up. Just continue a little ways into 2021.
If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online. So you need to make and keep your own backups.
Or request a transcript from the IRS
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
If you used desktop software downloaded/installed from a CD to your own computer, then the tax files are stored locally on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive. They are not stored online. If you cannot recover them due to a hard drive failure, etc. you can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $43, an actual copy of your tax return. The IRS saves returns for seven years, so some of the returns you are missing are just gone.
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf
If you do not have the 2020 tax file saved on your own hard drive, and the IRS does not have it either, then you are out of luck with the "lost" return. You could try preparing another 2020 return if you cannot come up with a copy of the one you think you filed.

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)
Or -
When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.
This will take you back to the 2021 online tax return.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return. Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets
If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.
Or go to this IRS website for free federal tax return transcripts - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
For a fee of $43 you can get a complete federal tax return from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf
How to get copies of last year's tax
@Dorothy1985 wrote:How to get copies of last year's tax
This answer assumes your 2020 return was prepared in Online TurboTax. I've posted below how to normally get it, and also how to look for multiple accounts, if necessary. Any return prepared in desktop software will not be in an online account.
First see this:
FAQ: How do I access my prior year return?
Log in and go to the Tax Home. Scroll down the Tax Home page to the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents." Expand that section and choose the tax year 2020. Then you can choose to "Download/print the PDF".
If you do all that, but there's no evidence of prior returns in that section "Your Tax Returns & Documents", then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one. Many people end up with multiple accounts.
You can have up to 5 accounts that use the same email address for notification purposes. A User ID may be an email address, but it doesn't have to be. It might be only part of an email address, or it can be anything at all.
To get a list of your User IDs, reset password, and recover account access, etc., you can use the tool at the link below. When using the Account Recovery tool, try using your phone number first--if you can still access it. After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access.
NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop. Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below. You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session.

If still no luck after running that on your phone number you can still access and email address(es) that you can access, here's another method:
Go back to the tool again, but this time leave the data field blank, scroll down a bit, then choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by SSN and other parameters.
How to get copies of my 2021 tax returns
You have to access your own account and/or print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.
Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them. Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax? If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

SAVE YOUR TAX RETURN !
EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records. That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

There is no access thru the app and when I try to access online I automatically am sent back to app
