How can i change payment method after filing, the card used when i file got lost and received a replacement one?

@SQ4678 This is a public web site that can be seen by anyone—including scammers and would-be identity thieves who would love to contact you and pretend to be from TurboTax.  Please remove the personal information you posted here ASAP by returning to your post and clicking the three little blue dots on the upper right to edit your post.

You have a problem----you need to change your address with the IRS.   When your refund goes to a closed account it will be sent back to the IRS and then the IRS will mail a check to the address on your tax return.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS

https://www.irs.gov/faqs/irs-procedures/address-changes/address-changes

You cannot  change banking information while your return is in pending, nor can you change it after the return is accepted.

If you e-filed:

Banking information for direct deposit is wrong

If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected.  If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it.  The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS.  Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return.  Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks to receive your refund.

Here is what the IRS says about entering incorrect banking information

Once the tax return has been filed the bank information cannot be changed.

If you have a tax refund the bank for the direct deposit will reject the deposit and return the refund to the IRS.  The IRS will send the refund as a check in the mail to the address on the tax return.

If you have taxes owed and paid the taxes by direct debit then go to this IRS website for information on paying the taxes owed if your bank account has changed for the direct debit - https://www.irs.gov/payments/pay-taxes-by-electronic-funds-withdrawal

  • Once your return is accepted, information pertaining to your payment, such as account information, payment date, or amount, cannot be changed. If changes are needed, the only option is to cancel the payment and choose another payment method.
  • Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling.
  • Cancellation requests must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. ET two business days prior to the scheduled payment date.

Use the IRS payment website to pay the taxes owed - https://www.irs.gov/payments

If you have already filed the federal tax return, read the answer directly above your post.

How can i change payment method after filing, the card used when i file got lost and received a replacement one?

Can I change the payment method from "tax return" to "credit card'? I didn't know that if you choose the first option they charge you extra $40.
Any tip?

How can i change payment method after filing, the card used when i file got lost and received a replacement one?

Hi Michelle,

Thank you for the link. Before commenting I did some research and know about the simple way to change the payment method. However, there should be some other way for the different situation like "once your tax return is accepted". TurboTax charges already a lot! And I don't understand what I'm paying for if I don't receive any service while I'm trying to resolve this issue?! Once I receive my tax return and I'll be charged with all the fees, why do I need TurboTax afterwards?!

I'm checking on my return status

@sha130

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2021 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899433-how-do-i-track-my-state-refund

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901548-why-do-some-refunds-take-longer-than-others

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2724106-my-return-is-accepted-but-still-not-approved-is-there-a-pr...

OR——if you filed by mail, expect a long wait.   It is taking the very backlogged IRS six to nine months to process mailed returns.   Until a human opens your envelope and enters the data into the system, nothing will even show up on the refund site, so you will have to be very patient.
