7 weeks and still in "pending" with IRS

I submitted my returns on Jan 27, 2023 with a nominal refund. It's been in "pending" status ever since and State is rejected (this is a significant refund) until the IRS status changes. No help from TurboTax and no way to actually reach the IRS.....what now?

Is "pending" your word---or are you seeing that word some place?   Does the IRS site say your return is being "processed?"

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2022 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901548-why-do-some-refunds-take-longer-than-others

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

If your state return was rejected you need to fix it and re-file it, or perhaps print and mail it in.

While we are doing this extra review, your return will show as pending.  Sometimes there are issues with forms availability and sometimes numbers don’t exactly add up. When this happens a tax return may be “Pending”  longer than 24-48 hours while an extra review is conducted to ensure 100% accuracy.

Let me be more clear to avoid cut and paste spam. I e-filed both federal and state on 27 Jan through turbo tax. The IRS still shows within TurboTax as "pending". State shows as rejected, rejected due to irs not accepting and in pending status. I call TurboTax, no answers except wait. IRS where's my refund or telephone have no record I even filed. It is impossible to reach a human at the IRS.

I have reviewed my data within TurboTax ad nauseam so there are no issues or anything outstanding.

Either the IRS is a complete mess but I've never heard or read of anyone having a pending status for so long. Or something happened with the e-file and it didn't work properly.

I'm stuck in limbo with almost $10k out there and there is zero information why.

Yeah this is now officially 8 weeks with no status change, nothing from IRS, and nothing showing any human or other system has done anything since I filed. I will call TurboTax again and see if anything can be done.

Please know that is the IRS that has to approve your return, not Turbo Tax. It varies, but normally it takes 24-48 hours. Also, the identity-protection safeguards implemented by the IRS in recent years may account for longer wait times. Eventually, you will receive an email letting you know whether or not your return has been accepted or rejected. TurboTax FAQ "What does Pending mean? "states, "Pending simply means that your e-filed return is on its way and that the government hasn't accepted or rejected it yet.

E-filed returns generally sit in Pending status for 24-48 hours before coming back as either Accepted or Rejected. Sometimes state returns stay in Pending for several days or even longer. If you contact the government or try to look up your refund status while your return is still pending, don't be surprised if they tell you "no record found." This is normal; until the government starts reviewing and processing your return, they won't have any record of it."

What does "Pending" mean?

You can always contact the IRS to inquires.
How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)?

Thank you for wasting my time with a cut and paste. Going forward, please read the post rather than waste my time. Thanks!

I'm sorry but there is noting that Turbo Tax can do. If you have done all we have suggested per the prior posts, the only thing you can do is contact the IRS using the link I provided.
