Tax return was rejected due to an incorrect AGI, however when I review my 2019 Turbo Tax documents the amount I entered is correct.
What do I do now?

When did you file 2019? If it was late in the year or you mailed it, try putting in 0 (zero) for the AGI. And see, https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/rejections/help/what-if-i-entered-the-correct-agi-and-i-m-still-ge...

If you can’t get it to efile you will have to print and mail it.

Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them. You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places. Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

If you filed late last year there is a good chance that the 2019 AGI never was entered into the e-file database. Try using 0 (zero) for the AGI.
If you filed an amended return use the AGI on the first filed tax return.
If it continues to reject then the AGI in the IRS database might be in error. Mail filing is the only option.
I have the same issue. Verified my 2019 AGI with IRS and turbo tax still rejects as AGI not matching. Unacceptable to say file by paper. Please check/update your software.
Did you try entering 0 for the AGI? The IRS is behind in updating the database to verify you.
Is it considered late filing if taxes were filed after April 15th, 2019 due to the extension because of covid?
Please visit the IRS Payment Deadline article below for information regarding the filing deadline for 2019 tax returns.
Setting the AGI 0 is 1::1 equivalent to saying "I didn't file last year" in the interview step, BTW.
More accurate would be the statement, "I didn't file, or the IRS did not process my return early enough to enter my AGI into the verification database". In our case, a mid-June filing was not acted upon until late November and not resolved until mid December 2020. Lots of this in the year of COVID, I imagine.
Remember if you are going to try this for a joint return that you need to set AGI to 0 for both parties aka replying "We both didn't file last year". I forgot this and having fixed my AGI to zero, got a second reject citing the spousal PIN and AGI as not matching rather than the original one citing my information. Editing the information to say "we both did not file" when preparing to file set both AGI fields to zero, I submitted again and then (finally) the return was accepted.
Hoping this helps someone else.
Per the IRS:
E-filing your 2020 tax return: To e-file you will need to enter your AGI from your tax year 2019 tax return. If your 2019 return has not yet been processed, you may enter $ 0 (zero) as your prior year Adjusted Gross Income. If you used the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool last year to register for an Economic Impact Payment, enter “$1” as your prior year AGI. See Claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit if you aren’t required to file a tax return.
Thanks, I had the same issue and was going crazy, tried putting "0" vs actual value in the IRS transcript, then only "going back" and choose "Neither of us filed last year" option finally worked. Glad I checked out this thread.
These past 2 years have shown that Turbotax is not a viable solution for e-filing anymore. Although the IRS has switched dates around, Turbotax e-filing should still be reliable. If Turbotax can't be relied on for this service the Intuit corporation should provide refunds to users. Integrity keeps businesses viable.
after 16 times of trying to efile, this worked.
Thank you VolvoGirl. Also, like your user name--I drive a Volvo too!
As per your reply "you may enter $ 0 (zero)". How is this beneficial? (note: I've seen both statements 'enter zero' and 'you MAY enter zero' on the IRS website just now).
If 2019 was filed and 'not yet processed', and the IRS is processing returns in the order they came in, why enter zero for the 2020 return and not the correct AGI from the 2019? I could understand if 2019 was not filed yet (not in the queu to be processed), then filing 2020 makes sense to use zero AGI. But if 2019 is already in the queu, by default 2019 should be processed first, so by the time they get to 2020 return the AGI will be a match.
When you go to efile any return the IRS requires the prior year AGI to "let you past the gate keeper" that they have on file as of the end of October the prior year. So if the prior year was not processed by that time then they will have NO AGI on file for you to use thus using a ZERO is the only option you have. Even if the return is processed in November the AGI will not be in the system for the next year's filing ... this is just the way it is.
Thanks for the response. I know that IRS validates electronically filed returns using AGI but are paper returns also validated using this method?
