I have received my 1st and 2nd stimulus check and I am now curious what year taxes my 3rd check will be based off. The reason I am curious is because I am in a little bit of a situation. I filed my 2019 taxes and I also recently filed my 2020 taxes. However, when I filed my 2020 taxes they were "rejected" and I do not think I will have the problem sorted out and my taxes refiled by the time the 3rd stimulus checks are issued. So, my question is will the IRS use my 2019 taxes instead of my 2020 taxes to calculate my stimulus check if my 2020 taxes are still in the rejected status when the IRS issues checks? Or will they still use my AGI from my 2020 taxes even though it is currently in a "rejected" status?
First things first---
You received an email that we cannot see that tells you why your tax return was rejected.
Some rejected returns can be fixed and re-filed. Some have “un-fixable” reasons for the rejection and have to be mailed instead. What is the rejection code or rejection message?
If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2019 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2019 AGI might not be in the IRS system. Try using zero instead.
If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year. The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.
Or—-if you filed as a “non-filer” just to get the stimulus check on a 2019 return, try using $1 as the AGI.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.
As for what will happen stimulus #3-wise----the House of Representatives is still wrangling over it. When they are done it has to be signed into law by the President. When the legislative process has been actually completed we will all find out the guidelines and how it will be implemented. So we might as well not try to guess.

We can assume it will be based on 2020. However, until the IRS writes the regulations, rules and procedures all is speculation.

Ok, so you think the IRS will still use my 2020 taxes even though they were rejected?
To be honest I'm actually hoping they use my 2019 taxes and not the rejected 2020 filed taxes because I made more money in 2020 than 2019.
I’m i getting a third stimulus check I don’t know what is going on with my taxes can someone please let me know
With my 2020 taxes not processed yet and has been rejected but there still working on them will I get a third stimulus check base off of 2019
@Cherylhowe22 The IRS will determine eligibility based on your last tax return (either 2019 or 2020) and will likely send your payment to the bank account where your tax refund was deposited.

Irs has rejected my 2020 taxes and they have to be amended with that being done will they use my 2019 taxes for my third stimulus check
Yes, they will use your 2019 return for the 3rd stimulus. But you can't amend a rejected return. You have to sign back in and fix the problem and then re-submit the return until it gets accepted. Why was it rejected and have you attempted to re-submit them? If you keep getting rejected, you will need to change your filing option to File by Mail and mail them to the IRS. But nothing is going to be done with them while they are in a rejected status.
I got my first and second stimulus but my 2020 taxes was rejected, do I still get my third stimulus??
The 2020 income tax return doesn't have impact on the 3rd round of IEP. The third payment will not be used to calculate the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit.
