Turbotax will not Efile taxes if you qualify for covid-19 family credit or any covid-19 relief-  form 7202 can not be efiled!

don't waste your time! You must mail in your taxes of you had to take time off work due to covid-19

The IRS doesn't accept 7202 as an e-filed form.  Some professional software allows the preparer to add attachments, but TurboTax doesn't have this feature.  It's not a very reliable feature anyway as the IRS often asks for the very same documents that preparers transmit as PDF attachments later anyway because they don't automatically see them.

Form 7202 is not available for e-filing, according to our forms availability sheet.

To print and mail your return, please follow these instructions if you're using TurboTax Online and review this article if you're using TurboTax Desktop

If you wish to e-file without the credit you will need to delete the form. How do I view and delete forms in TurboTax Online? How do I delete a tax form in the TurboTax CD/Download software?

Why can't turbotax efile 7202? Is there a way to fix it?

We were instructed to e-file without the 7202 because we were told by TurboTax we weren't eligible and to delete the form in our return. We e-filed and it was accepted by the IRS but have since learned we are eligible and the refund is substantial.

How do we go about amending our e-filed return so we can take advantage of the Covid-19 deduction?

It's very disturbing that 3 different TurboTax support personnel told us 3 different things about this deduction.

First, make sure that your 2020 return was accepted in TurboTax Online or paper-filed through the mail. You can't amend a return that hasn't been filed yet.

  1. Sign in to TurboTax.
  2. Scroll down to Your tax return & documents (you may need to select Show), select 2020 and then Amend (change) return.
    • If you only see the option to amend 2019 or earlier, it's because you can't amend an unfiled 2020 return. Instead, just select Pick up where you left off, make your changes, and disregard the rest of these instructions.
  3. Select Amend using TurboTax Online.
  4. Carefully follow the instructions. Don't worry if your refund changes to $0. This is normal on amended returns.
  5. You can e-file your 2020 amended federal tax return, but most states require amendments to be printed and filed by mail.
  6. If e-filing, you’ll review, sign and transmit your federal return. If not, we'll give you instructions to print and mail your amended return.

Why can't turbotax efile 7202? Is there a way to fix it?

Will TT REIMBURSE US FOR INABILITY TO EFILE AND FOR MAILING CERTIFIED RETURN RECEIPT OR WILL THEY UPDATE THEIR SOFTWARE SINCE IRS HAS OFFERED A WORKAROUND???PER IRS WEBSITE - READ ON:

Because Forms 8915-E and 7202 are new and impacted by recent legislation, IRS has provided alternatives for these forms to be included with an e-filed return. Some software providers allow the forms to be attached as a pdf, others as a statement attached to the filing. As an alternative to attaching a PDF of Form 8915-E or 7202, to increase e-filing and reduce paper filing, software providers may instead include with the e-filed return a general dependency statement that includes all the information requested on Form 8915-E or 7202 if they are unable to attach a PDF of the form. Such a statement should look similar to the following for Form 8915-E, or correspondingly similar for Form 7202. Forms that have been typically filed as a PDF in the past, such as Form 8915-E, or other new forms not yet on XML, should still be sent in as a PDF.

Why can't turbotax efile 7202? Is there a way to fix it?

My billing question was not meant to be a billing issue. It was only a suggestion since all of us who are impacted by the issue with form 7202 have paid for efiling and we are not able to nor did we not want to paper file. It’s TT that doesn’t want to easily fix what other software vendors offer or follow the online suggestions offered by the IRS published 2/19....  The IRS DOES NOT want paper forms either. Perhaps you should read through the IRS info I posted and get a big thank you from the TT community and recognition for offering an easy fix for thousands of customers who, like myself, are considering switching to another vendor.  TT keeps evading the issue by saying it can’t be efiled. BUT IT CAN BE SENT AS AN ATTACHMENT or a document in the  format I posted earlier. Why doesn’t anyone at TT want to respond openly?

TurboTax has worked hard with the IRS to make it possible to e-file this form.  Since this will require programming adjustments for both the IRS and TurboTax, it will be a few weeks before these changes are made.  If you wish to file this form, you have the following options:

  1. Mail-in your return now and not wait until the form is available to e-file.
  2. E-file your return without the form, and then file an amended return with the form attached to it (amended returns now also can be e-filed for greater convenience).
  3. Wait until the form is available in TurboTax and e-file your entire return at once.

Thank you for your response . Most of us would rather efile rather than hope our paper return is not shelved on the back burner at the IRS. Either way, we have to wait. My concern is why TT is do behind the curve??!!??  That’s frustrating and even more so when we hear “can’t efile” when the IRS allows the attachment. When we get the Marie Antoinette response (“let them eat cake”, meaning let them paper file when other tax software have figured it out), is SO

frustrating. We use TT because it’s supposed to be the best but we receive a response more reflective of “we don’t care, let them paper file”. Fine. But it’s cheaper to buy another tax software than put up with a dismissal “attitude” or paper file with TT. We paid to efile but you don’t appear to care and that’s unacceptable for clients who have been long term clients. That’s the “beef” everyone is expressing!
