Hi, the error message window (with a yellow exclamation point graphic with the TurboTax red circle and white check mark) reads:
"Oh dear. turboTax ran into a problem and has to shut down. Next Time you launch TurboTax, be sure to install any updates we offer before you you work on your taxes again." (There is a 'Save Before Quitting' button and a 'Don't Save Before Quitting' button).
Where I was right before the crash:
I clicked on the Personal tab in TurboTax, selected 'Personal Income', choose the option to work on what I want ( I did not choose the 'Visit all' option). At the very bottom there is a choice to select Miscellaneous Income (not reported on other 1099 forms). I selected that, typed in about 5 or 6 lines of entries and the crashed occurs (pretty much in the exact spot every time). I am just typing in plain text in the description field.
In the Mac 'Console' utility, there is no 'Crash Report' filed; however, under 'Log Reports' there is a fairly lengthy log file generated at the time of the crash. The file under Logs is called: com.intuit.turbotax.2021.2022-04-05_16-26-36-1420000
Here is the 'beginning' section of the log file that was generated in the Console:
Blech! Can't set logger: com.intuit.cg.fs.common.logging.Log4jLogger

The log file goes on for quite a while. I searched within the generated log file and looked for the word 'exception' - it returned this: zpExceptionBase: error code = 900 source file = /opt/QuickBuild/workspace/CTP/TpsBridge/build/darwin/Src/High/SS/FormCalc/calcCSC2.cpp, line 3114{
"2 TurboTax 2021 [phone number removed]41766c _ZN15zpExceptionBaseC1EtPKcib + 44",
"Type" : "PN6Intuit3Ctg3Pta27ComponentFrameworkExceptionE"
I searched for 'Exception Type' within the Console log file but it did not return anything.
There is a new ~Library/Caches/KSCrash/TurboTax/Data folder that is generated. Inside the Data folder were two files: ConsoleLog.txt and CrashState.json
The ConsoleLog.txt is empty
The CrashState.json file had a small amount of code in it relating to the number of crashes.
I did delete all the folders and files in the ~Library/Caches/KSCrash/ area relating to TurboTax then emptied the trash. I reopened TurboTax. It launches, check for updates (say there is none, loads my data (can see calculated refunds on left top corner), then the exact same error message pops up before I can type in anything. The error message is:
"Oh dear. TurboTax ran into a problem and has to shut down...."
I greatly appreciate help! I have spent at least 30 to 40 hours or work on this - been using TurboTax for the Mac for last 10 years or so.
Hi Macuser_22, the error message window that pops ups reads, " Oh dear. TurboTax ran into a problem and has to shut down. Next time you launch TurboTax, be sure to install any updates we offer before you work on your taxes again."
I did not choose the 'Visit all' option. I chose under the Personal tab, 'Personal Income' sub tab, then choose the option to choose what to work on. I chose the Miscellaneous income option (things that don't appear on a 1099) - the very bottom option. I started to put in data, about the 5th or 6th line down, when typing in the 'description field' the error message appears. (This is the same location is has crashed previously under my other Mac account). In previous years I have never filled out this data or area since I did not have anything to declare.
The Mac console did not generate a 'Crash Report' but did generate a 'Log Report'. The file is called:
com.intuit.turbotax.2021.2022-04-05_20-37-20-2920000.log

I deleted the ~Library/Caches/KSCrash/ data (yes - a folder was generated), and trashed the file. I emptied the trash. I restarted TurboTax with the same exact error message that I started with.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
The error message is the same one "Oh dear. TurboTax ran into a problem and has to shut down.'
The screen where the error occurs is when I click on the 'Personal' tab then the "Personal Items' sub tab. I then choose the option to work on what I want (not the 'Visit All' option).
At the very bottom choose Miscellaneous Income (income not declared on other 1099 forms) and begin to manual enter data. About the 5th or 6th line down in the subject field, TurboTax crashes.
There was no 'Crash Report' generated in the Mac Console app however a 'Log Report' is generated at the time of the crash. I searched through the log file and could not find an 'Exception Type'.
Data was in the ~Library/Caches/KSCrash/ folder. I deleted the folders and files in there, emptied trash. I restarted Turbotax and the same exact error message occurs right after it checks for updates (there are no new updates). It crashes right before I can enter any data at the home screen.
Any other advice on how to resolve this is appreciated! Thanks!
I tried to enter data an the last item which is "Other reportable income" and had no problem.
Other that a total uninstall and reinstall I have no other advice. Be sure when you reinstall that you download a fresh copy of the download that should contain all updates - your original download might be corrupted.
srssrs--the url you provided: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/installing/help/remove-uninstall-turbotax-for-mac/00/26050
points to a complete list of locations you need to clear out. I was able to reinstall successfully. Thanks!
Unfortunately the program is now asking me for $ to install my state. I was not asked to re-enter my key--I'm hoping if I can figure out how to enter that the paying twice thing will go away.
If you have already paid for your state, you can contact support for assistance.

@Katy_S
But if I remove all of the files and directory relating to TurboTax 2021, won't I lose everything I've worked on already?
If you delete "all files in the library connected to 2021 Turbotax" - won't you lose everything you've already entered?
Have you figured out how to solve this problem yet? I'm having the exact same problem, and I really can't bear to lose everything I've already entered on my return.
I can't find any of these files - are they hidden? - spent most of two days looking for them, plus uninstalling & installing from CD & download, hours on the phone. Can't TurboTax get a decent MAC support group together? Seems like everyone on OS Monterey is having issues. I did manage to set up TT on my husband's IMAC in his home office, but I wonder for how long it will work? Looks like I started using TT back in 2006 at least.

Yes they are hidden. See this article how to see them.
Here is a FAQ for how to uninstall Mac

But I can't find these files on my Mac- even the TT tech could not find them when we uninstalled TT Home & Business & then tried to reinstall.

Explain more about "cannot find".
They might not all be present depending on the version.
even looked for hidden files- none of listed files seem to be on my IMAC
Did you purchase the software from Turbo Tax or a third party retailer? @PAF-BF
