I did 2020 taxes on my macbook and this year downloaded the pc version so I could use my desktop. Is there therefore no way to transfer last year's return data? I assumed at purchase it would be an account log-in not a search of my actual computer..

Hi Thanks for using Turbotax.
If you have used TurboTax 2020 Mac Desktop product in TY20, You can copy your tax file(.tax2020 file) from Macbook to PC and use transfer prior data in the PC new return.
If you have used Online product, you can access your prior year returns after logging into your account and download the TY20 tax file.
If you could not find your TY20 tax file, you can also import the PDF file copy of your tax return if exists.
Importing the PDF is a waste of time since almost nothing transfers ... download the .taxfile from last year's online program. Once the PDF is on your computer start a new return and the program should find it otherwise point it in the correct direction.
Here's how to view and download your prior-year returns. You can access returns for the past seven years.
Sign in to your TurboTax account. Make sure you're using the same TurboTax account (same user ID) as in prior years.
There are two ways to get your prior-year returns.
Note: If the year you're looking for isn't there, it might be in a different account. Go here to find all of your accounts. One of them should have the return you're looking for
Need to prepare a prior-year return? Go here instead.
