rejected efile for AGI

Please read comment by mk2022mk

I had tried 0 already and it was rejected.

MK confirms that you need to enter 0.00 per IRS help guideline.

But Turbotax makes 0.00 as 0 as soon as you enter the number.

Want to know from mk2022mk   or anyone else how to make it 0.00

rejected efile for AGI

@yatish sharma I did read mk2022mk answer and if you already tried the 0, then the IRS is not accepting the amount.  TurboTax will not accept the 0.00.  If you cannot get your AGI, you will have to mail in your return.  I have been doing this for over 22 years and never has that worked.

" I have been doing this for over 22 years and never has that worked.  "

Never is a pretty strong statement.

So what you are saying is that in the '22 years," you have been using this workaround it has never worked.

This AGI request is a recent IRS security measure, not something you've dealt with for 22 years.

TurboTax rounds everything on the screen to the nearest dollar but since you don't actually know the format is used in submitting the raw data to the IRS, and it does not appear on your return, you don't know if $0.00 was sent to the IRS ... unless you tried it both ways as I did.

It does not take long to try it and the IRS responded with a Rejected or Accepted email in just a couple of hours.

@mk2022mk  Are you just trying to start something.  I been helping on this forum for 22 years, I never said I used the work around.  The answers in this post also say to use a zero. 0.00 does not work and I would not give someone the wrong information.  Not to mention I was answering someone else not you.

TurboTax will not accept 0.00.

Thank you for the responses.

I wanted to know if you used turbotax, how did you enter 0.00

turbotax removes the digits after the 0 the moment you enter them.

I have tried 0 twice now and it was rejected both the times.

I will really appreciate if i can know how to enter 0.00 and see if it gets accepted.

Right now its a loop for paper filing. i filed my paper taxes in 2022 April and they are yet to be processed.

So now i will have same issue every year.

@yatish sharma   I am telling you, TurboTax will not accept the 0.00, only a Zero.  If you want to believe someone that is telling you wrong, then there is nothing I can say that will help.  If your original AGI and a Zero do not work, then you will need to mail in your return.  If you filed an amended return in 2021, do not use the AGI from your amended return, use the AGI from your original return.

Can I put a 0 for my AGI in TurboTax?

If you filed your 2021 return after the filing deadline and it wasn't received and processed by the IRS by Dec. 9, 2022, you should enter “0” for the AGI amount.

I hear you bluedeb and know that paper filing might be the only option but was hoping somehow electronic works out.

I am tired of waiting for the paper return to be processed. I didnt amend the return last year, i filed the original before the deadline and it is yet to be processed. Moreover, when i call them and wait for 3 hours - the response i get is it is getting processed but we cant give you any other information.

@yatish sharma   I wish I could give you the magic answer but if your 2021 return has not been processed yet, then Zero should have gotten you to e-file your 2022 return.  Not sure why you have to keep mailing in your return but any chance your were a victim of identity theft?  If you are, then you need to get an IP PIN from the IRS to e-file.

@bluedeb , excellent guess!!!

i was a victom of identity theft last year, so had to file paper return.

i do have the IP PIN which i have added to the return. it still got rejected.

@yatish sharma Is your IP Pin for this tax season, 2022?  Each year you need a new IP PIN.  Also, the IP PIN goes in a different section of your return, it does not go where you enter your AGI.

How do I add or remove my 6-digit IP PIN?

Follow these instructions to enter your IP PIN or to remove one that you accidentally entered.

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account
  2. Open or continue to your return if you don't already have it open
  3. In the search bar type IP pin (don't forget the space)
  4. Select the Jump to link in the search results
  5. On the Identity Protection PIN screen, answer Yes. Select Add and enter your IP PIN in the space provided
    • If you need to remove the IP PIN, select the trash icon
  6. Select Continue, then select Done

Thanks for the response @bluedeb .

I have IP Pin and  I entered it in turbotax already. The return was still rejected.

Just to confirm IRS website provided me:

Congratulations, your 2023 Identity Protection.

Is that ok, or i should look for 2022 identity PIN.

IRS website doesnt give option to obtain IP PIN for 2022 as such.

Also, since it is join return with my wife. Do i need to get IP PIN for her also?

Appreciate your help.

You need a new IP Pin for each year. There is no way to get an IP Pin for a past year.  Example: You can not get an IP Pin for 2022 filings now that it is 2023.

You can only use the IP Pin for the year it was issued.

Example:  If you got your IP Pin in Feb of this year (2023)  you can only use it when filing 2023 taxes in 2024.

Filing jointly only requires one IP Pin

rejected efile for AGI

@yatish sharma  Your 2023 IP PIN is the one you use.   I just asked about your 2022 IP PIN so you won’t use that one .  On a joint return, the spouse must also have a AGI or IP PIN to e-file a joint return.  If you only received one IP PIN try entering that number in your spouse’s area.   The rejection code should tell you if it is now getting rejected for your spouse. See if any of this helps.

Do me and my spouse have the same IP PIN?
Each spouse on a married filing joint return will have his or her own IP PIN. If only one spouse received an IP PIN, that PIN would need to be entered in the field for that spouse.

Do both spouses need an identity protection PIN?

If you, your spouse (if married filing jointly), or dependent had an IP PIN assigned, it needs to be included on your return. If you don't know the IP PIN necessary to file, check the return reject code to see whether the IP PIN requirement belongs to you, your spouse, or your dependent (as applicable).Feb 27, 2023

How do i find the error code?

@bluedeb

@yatish sharma   When you get the rejection,  It's in the email you received, or you can view it in TurboTax after selecting Fix my return. See the following, it might help you with the rejection.

Check this list or search for your reject code in TurboTax for solutions specific to your situation.
