Since Windows dropped support for Windows 7, there are few if any vendors that will support 7 using their software.  TurboTax does not support 7.

I concur with the rest of the dissatisfied group.  Why could they not at least do the same as TT2019 where you can use both Win 7and Win 10.  Win 8 is not safe.  Been a consistent user since 1995, they also did this on the latest upgrade to Quicken Deluxe! Good way to lose loyal customers Intuit.

Wow, how compassionate.  It's an awful year for everything in business.  I cannot deal with upgrading my computer right now because overloaded with work and life demands resulting from the pandemic.  Upgrading I understand I will not have access to certain of my files anymore (long story) (not sure about turbo files, haven't checked that out).  And I cannot afford to buy a new computer.

I too have been loyal customer with Turbo since the 1990's.  The whole Intuit thing and Quicken changes and glitches have been such a thoughtless hassle over the years.  And even Quicken changing to annual subscription only.

And not offering compensation of some kind?

Intuit/Turbo, you have any idea what people are going through outside of your comfortable corporate by remote?   No understanding or compensation?

I will say this Community Forum of people here have been wonderful over the years

Absolutely disgusting of Intuit-Turbo.

It is a huge disruption to demand we upgrade from Windows 7, and from what I hear and read, very risky.  My Windows 7 computer works perfectly well and was very expensive to purchase.  I bought it through Costco / HP.  So I am contacting Costco's buyer to ask them to to influence Intuit to make a better decision.  Intuit has absolutely no cause not to install on Windows 7, and I will recommend Costco no longer carry the product if they do not support Costco Windows 7 systems.  Perhaps if we all contact our retailers, Intuit might listen.

@Handyman Our latest products won’t work with Windows 7, because as of January 2020, Microsoft will no longer be providing security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7.For tax year 2020, all TurboTax desktop products require Windows 8 or higher to install. We strongly recommend that desktop customers using Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10 before installing a new product.

While you can still use TurboTax 2019 on Windows 7, there are a couple risks in doing so:

  • Your computer will be more vulnerable to security risks and viruses, because Microsoft will no longer provide security updates and support for your PC.
  • You won’t be able to install future versions of TurboTax on your PC. You’ll need to upgrade to a newer version of Windows to run TurboTax 2020.

If you’re still using TurboTax 2019 and don’t want to upgrade your operating system just yet, you can transfer your 2019 info from TurboTax CD/Download to TurboTax Online by following these instructions.

Cass0317, Respectfully, I understand your position, although I vigorously disagree with it.  There are thousands of software product still able to install and run on Windows 7.  You speak of security and then recommend I place my private tax return in the cloud. Who needs that risk?

If Intuit cared about customers and security, Intuit would say to Microsoft that they should re-enable the Defender antivirus scanner on Windows 7 systems even if no further updates are to be provided. This gives very well matured security; I trust it better than the churn in Windows 10.  Microsoft's ill-advised action to push people out of Windows 7 is only to support their constant revenue grab.  Why doesn't Intuit take a stand in favor of your customers?

Or perhaps we should find another tax program?!!  Really Intuit?  We are your customers.  Microsoft is just another company.  If I upgrade to W10 will you guarantee that my machine will no longer be vulnerable?  In case you've missed it, Microsoft issues multiple fixes every month for problems it knows about.  I take the risk to stick with Win 7.  I bought a product.  Let me use it!!

Well it looks like you will have to upgrade to at least Win 8 if you switch to TaxAct.  TurboTax will also run on Win 8.  Although I completely disagree with Intuit's decision not to let us use TT 2020 on Win 7 (and have posted my complaint and request to have them reconsider and let us assume the risk if we decide to do so), I just wanted to let you know that at least according to TaxAct's posted requirements you need at least Win 8.  Not sure if that's just a recommendation or a hard requirement as with TurboTax.  Let us know if you can install the current TaxAct year on Win 7.

Thanks,

John

I was hoping for an easier install, but a work around to this, while a bit annoying, isdoable:

--> Install a VM (Virtual Machine) emulation, build a win 10 OS there, install your TT 2020 into that.... Just be careful about your key. If you delete the VM entry without de-registering the key you might need to buy another copy.

I have some programming experience with windows of all flavors for nearly 20 years. It is unlikely there is any core API that Turbotax needs in Win 10 to run that is not in Win 7. "Windows 7 might not be as secure" is not a great argument. probably more like intuit at some level thinks there is a chance someone would get their PII compromised and blame it on them. Honestly, I use windows 7 on the MS machines i want to be secure, and lock down the services i dont like, because of the tremendous amount of telemetry (phoning home to tell them waht you do) that 8 and 10 send to M$. Win 10 is not safe, anyone that thinks so is fooling them selves. MS OS's in general are poor. Disable scripting globally in an Internet explorer broswer? LOL MS dont understand the concept.

I couldn't agree more.  This is just stupid, I won't be using their software anymore.

I'm right with you.  Almost 50 yrs in IT.  Yes, too much crap in Win 10 for me.  I call it my socialized OS because it thinks I want to connect to everyone in the world so they and MS know all that I'm doing before I do it.  Sorry, no offense world, I'm a private guy.

My solution is similar to yours.  I've got Win 10 on my laptop.  Hey, I'm in IT so I need to be familiar with what my clients are using.  So I RDP to my lap, install TT and use the drives on my desktop so files are encrypted.

Look, I like most others, haven't read the Intuit fine print but I'm sure I've already agreed that I hold them harmless for anything that happens including the rain outside today.  If they want to take responsibility that I won't get hacked while using TT on Win 10 then fine force me to use Win 10 since the are giving me something if I use TT on Win 10.  Otherwise, I'm a big boy, let me choose what I use since I'm responsible for it.  Also, they might want to take a look at the monthly patch Tuesday list.  Are they still telling me Win 10 is safe?!!
