Finnefo, Thank you and what a smart idea. Keeping Turbo Tax on a separate, inexpensive laptop. We only use it once a year.
And good to hear from everyone over the past year.
Good luck and take care.

For 2019 and 2020 I had to use the backdoor (extract MSI) method of installing.
It seems with 2021 that no longer works to get TT installed on Win7.
Dear Intuit, rot in the fiery pit. According to CIRN, there are more ACTIVE threats against Windows 10 now than at the peak of Windows 7's worst.
As such your claims of wanting to do this for security are LIES!
Further, since several of your software packages make specific recommendations on what software to upgrade to (ex Windows 10) you become directly responsible for any breaches of those systems that would not have occurred if the system was still running the more secure Windows 7. The reason being you gave professional and technical advice to upgrade to that specific OS.
They tried to make windoze xp obsolete. Some were able to keep it going because it was used in some bank machines or kiosks. There were contractual obligations. For some time after MS declared XP obsolete, we were able to continue MS support for some time. If I recall, there was a registry patch that kept it alive.
I suspect that TT makes some kind of system call to find what version of windoze is used, and if it doesn't report back as win8 or above, refuses to run. So, does anybody know if there is a registry patch and what is it?
I have installed win10 on a win7 dual boot system. The ONLY time I bring up win10 (ugh!) is to run TT. Through the years, TT has gotten worse and I would like to move away from it, but stay on the win7 platform.

Turns out a simple hex edit will allow install on Windows 7.
Open the Setup.exe file and at offset 0x0001d7aa change the 74 to 75.

Yep, I did this last year and posted it. It worked for Premier as well.
for an alternative. Don't know if it would be any better, but ...

To Cliff (and all),
Happen to return to this amazing and sad discussion. Last read as summer rolled in.
I had not heard of this petition. I may not agree with it completely but I do with most of it and will sign it.
It may be too late (Oct.22). But thank you to Cliff for sending.
For 2021 Return, it seemed more complicated, or seemed difficult locating proper answers to my questions. And never located some.
That's when I go to this Community Forum.
I feel helpless with these huge corporations.
Thanks.
I purchased Turbo Tax Disc this year and was appalled to find out my Windows 8.1 is not sufficient for Turbo Tax to work! I've been using Turbo Tax for many years! I went to Best Buy to purchase Windows 10 and the salesman there told me not to bother to buy a new computer! LOL Than I find out Windows 10 is only going to be in use until 2025 and it will be phased out! You'll have to update to Windows 11. As of right now the reviews of Windows 11 are awful. I went to Microsoft website to purchase and get help with Windows 10, another nightmare! Downloaded and purchased Windows 10 for 139.00, 2 hours for the download and after all that I get an error message 0x8007001f _0x20006 replicate _ OC operation. I just want to get done with my taxes.. thought I get a head start on it.. I feel very sorry for the consumers who wait until the last minute to file and find out all the BS. After all this I will be looking else where to file my taxes.
