My case:
Downloaded to laptop HDD. Installed with my logon. No issue.
Switched to another windows user in the same laptop. TT asked for license code.
TT should not prompt for license code as it should allow 1 copy per PC, not user.
The TurboTax user license allows one user to install copies of TurboTax on up to five computers that the user owns. You can prepare multiple returns, including returns for other people. The license does not allow one copy to be shared among different people. You are required to log into your TurboTax online account when you install the program for the first time. This locks one particular copy of the program and one license code to one user account.

Quite aware of all this, thanks.
I'm logging into the same Intuit account, as mentioned earlier. The same computer with the same computer user (in my case) is randomly requiring re-activation on launch until the 5 computer activations are used up, as mentioned earlier. That's exactly what this thread is about.
The software is not working as you describe for everyone. There's a critical software activation bug that is affecting certain users, as it has for the last few versions of Turbotax.
I'd appreciate it if you read the contents of this thread before posting additional "helpful" suggestions. It's condescending to skip over 3 pages of detailed posts about a bug and just assume that users are at fault.
Better yet, if you can convince ANYONE from the Turbotax product team to read this thread, that would be the best solution.
Please call TurboTax Customer service. Here is a link: Turbo Tax Customer Service
Ah yes, let's post this same message again and ignore the feedback. Unreal. Seriously, are you a bot?
No, I'm a real human. In the community, we can't see everything customer service can when it comes to your account. We can offer solutions, but when they don't work, we have no other options but to send you to Customer Service.

Thanks for confirming that.
Customer service doesn't know anything about this problem and there's nothing unusual in our accounts that point out a cause. Customer service also doesn't have any way to get information back to the product teams from what they've told me. If you spend and hour on the phone talking to customer service about this problem, you'll talk to 2 or 3 people until someone will eventually issue a new license to get you working again, and then the activations will continue to be used on that license as before. I've gone through this for the last 2-3 years of Turbotax releases. My last year's version of Turbotax, which was issued a 2nd license last year, is now locked out again, but I can't be bothered to spend another frustrating hour on the phone for that.
The most detailed information about the problem appears to be in this thread, and no solutions have been presented that have solved the issue. This year, it occurred on 2 computers for us, as mentioned above. All software was installed with the same intuit user, all installations were only run with the same computer user, all installations were on the internal hard drive, there were no hardware or OS changes to the machines after installation, and there was no VPN, etc. in the loop. In our case, all computers were Macs, although others in this thread are having Windows issues.
My next move will probably be to find someone on LinkedIn who works on the Turbotax product/dev team and point them to this thread, since there seems to be no other way to bring this thread to anyone's attention. It's hard to believe that the Turbotax product team doesn't check out Intuit's own Turbotax support community for things like this, and I'm also not aware of any email address or tool for reporting bugs, which is also quite incredible.
"The TurboTax user license allows one user to install copies of TurboTax on up to five computers that the user owns."
It's wrong if TurboTax is not letting switched user to access to the same software. Not everyone want their family to peek their personal content by switching user within a same PC. This is a legitimate case to share within a family (up to 5 e-filings)
Even with the more expensive product like Microsoft office allows multiple users to access to the same MS office copy for a given PC.
@FortuneCookies You can put a password on your tax data file.
Continue your tax return.
Click on the File menu at the top left of the desktop program screen
Click on Password
You just provided an option to password-protect my tax file. My intention is to segregate user content and ensure privacy. Everyone in the family shares laptops but has their own Windows sessions and personal data.
