Transfer prior year personal info to 2024

I'm trying to get started with 2024 using TurboTax Mac Download. Please remind me how to transfer data from my 2023 return (also with TurboTax Desktop) to 2024 forms. I'm unable to find a "Tax Tools" in top bar nor in a side bar.

If you are using desktop download software, you open up your installed 2024 program from your own hard drive, go up to the top of your screen to the word File, click it and then click on the drop down that says New Tax Return.   That will take you to a screen that asks if you want to use a 2023 tax return that is on your computer, continue without transferring or import from TurboTax Online.

Remember you are looking for the file called .tax2023      not a pdf.

The faq refers to TurboTax Online. Does this also apply to Mac Download version?

If you used the Desktop program, you need the data file ending in .tax2023 to transfer. It should be in your Documents then in a Turbo Tax folder. Or search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax or .tax2023.

I think when you first open the program on the Welcome screen should be a Transfer button.  Or maybe you have to first click on Begin.

Thanks for your reply; however, that command goes directly to data entry page without the option to begin from prior year form.

OK. So I went back, closed everything, dusted myself off and started all over again following your directions. It worked.

I'm still baffled as to why this is so not intuitive, but I've made detailed notes for next year to perhaps save me some time. I'm sure the kids in software development will change something for next year, though. I won't hold my breath until then.

I need to know how to transfer 2023 information on my Mac  that I used for my taxes from a boxed edition purchased at Sams.(not seeing any .tax 2023 saved in Documents) into my on-line purchased 2024  software. No toolbox found anywhere. Thanks.

Did you buy the Download Desktop program from online or are using the Online web version?  In the Online version you don't need to pay until you file or print.

Find tax files on Mac. You might need to show extensions. I think Mac doesn't show the .tax2023 at the end.

Here's an idea. Do you still have 2023 installed? Try opening 2023 program and see if you can get your 2023 return to show up in it. Go to FILE - OPEN. And see if that is the right one.

In the 2023 program do a File-Save AS or Duplicate and give it a easy name you can find or search for. And note where it saves it or select where to save it so you can find it again.

We purchased the business version from Amazon for Mac. We have to use it as we are in a partnership working interest in an oil/gas well. Searched all Documents and did not find any tax 

I used the how to transfer into Mac Desktop link you sent above and did the steps.
Step 3 says select 2023 from the list and continue.  No 2023 to select

Step 4 if you do not see your return select “find your tax return”. Nothing came up.

Now what ?
