Schwab import fails

I have Home & Business 2019.  When I try to import my 1099, I get the message:

   This import was unsuccessful.

There isn't any tax-related info to import right now.

I contacted Schwab who said that files were released and available.  I have not had any import problems in previous years.  Please advise.

4-1-22 This fixed my broken import using Win 10 TT Premier and Edge:

Update Windows 10 and Reboot.

Update TT and Reboot.

Schwab installed a very sophisticated security system with Intuit login + Schwab popup windows that requires user acceptance. This likely broke  the previous download to TT.

I've used TT for many years with not one problem importing from Schwab. Not so this year. After trying numerous things, including changing my TT password several times and trying suggestions from this thread, I gave up and spent the better part of a gorgeous, sunny FL day manually entering all my trades...I hope TT gets this solved b4 next year's filing season or I will opt for another platform. A shame after being a loyal TT user for decades. I haven't been able to find the phone number for TT technical support, if anyone has it I'd appreciate posting it on this thread.  Thanks.

I suffered through the agony and frustration of uploading 1099’s from Schwab to TT last year (for my 2021 tax return) and expected the worst this year. So I was pleasantly surprised when I uploaded my Schwab 1099’s this past weekend with zero issues. I followed the simple directions on TT and it all went very smoothly, like clockwork! Congratulations TT for getting this right for 2022.

I am trying to import tax data from Charles Schwab account with no success,  I have used Turbo Tax for at least 20 years with no problem. I am using Premier version primarily for this function.  I get to all the way to where I sign into the Schwab account, and than I get the following

nstruction and Informed Consent to Allow TurboTax to Access Your Account Information

Please read the following and provide consent to the terms and conditions. By clicking Continue, you authorize Schwab to grant access to and share the following data with TurboTax.

Your Instruction to Schwab. On this page you can direct Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. and its affiliates ("Schwab", "we" or "us") to allow third-party tax preparation software providers (each a “Tax Preparation Software Provider”) that you designate to access and export your Schwab account information ("Account Information"). By instructing us to do this, and by clicking "Continue" below, you are agreeing to these terms, which we may amend from time to time, and providing your informed consent. You are accepting the responsibility and risks summarized below. We may change, suspend or cancel this instruction at any time. A copy of these terms is available at

Schwab does not customize the Account Information that Tax

The above message tells me to click on CONTINUE, but I see no CONTINUE to click on.  PLEASE ADVICE.    [email address removed]

A suggestion is go into your Schwab account and click on the option that allows for sharing.  Then sign off and go back to try downloading into TT.  The verbiage you're now seeing is what CS has on their site to authorize sharing.  Since you will now have already authed CS to share, it should skip this step with in the TT download process.   Good luck.

The fix I have is to only use Firefox as the default web browser and not edge for downloading 1099’s from Schwab to TurboTax 2022. Why TurboTax will only recognize downloaded 1099’s from Schwab using Firefox is a TurboTax issue in my opinion.

Mine kept failing using the Brave browser. I finally figure out to change my default web browser in Windows settings to something more mainstream like Chrome or Bing and that worked on the first try.

If you received a "Success" message but your data hasn't appeared in TurboTax, it is likely due to recent browser security updates regarding Local Network Access.

To fix this you need to allow TurboTax to securely retrieve your data through your browser settings:

  1. Locate the View Site Information icon (the "tune" or "lock" icon) on the far left of your address bar, just before the URL.
  2. Find Local Network Access in the dropdown menu.
  3. Toggle the switch to ON.
  4. Refresh the page and attempt your import again.

If permissions aren't the issue, one of the following factors may be at play:

  • Brokerage Delays: While most forms arrive by January 31, many brokerages delay Consolidated 1099s (like the 1099-B) until mid-February due to complex reporting requirements.
  • Availability: Your brokerage must specifically "release" the import file to TurboTax. If it isn’t ready, we recommend checking back.
  • Connection Blocks: Active VPNs or aggressive Anti-Virus software can occasionally block the import feature between your bank and TurboTax. Try disabling them temporarily or switching to a different browser.

The issue was the local network access protection. I fixed that and things work out. There probably should be a help item which explains this failure on the import page. This would be a common failure point, and having to go through the community to get an answer is kind of poor programming architecture. This would be something that could be detected and warned about.

Same problem with Schwab/Premier. TurboTax Desktop Partner Connection says Success but TurboTax 2025 says import unsuccessful.

Here's something to try:

Other users have said in other threads they have to allow Intuit a specific browser permission for "local network access."   Some browsers will popup a prompt if a website (such as Intuit) asks for "local network access" (or similar words.)  Some of users had said "no" if they got that prompt to allow Intuit local network access, and thus import failed.   Users who have allowed Intuit "local network access" in the browser settings were able to import (at least from Vanguard or Fidelity, but I presume it would be from any brokerage.)   Once you have successfully imported, you can go back and switch back that "local network access" that you gave to Intuit.

Of course, you also have to allow Schwab third-party permission in your Schwab account, which you may already have done.

I'm having the same issue. I don't get why Intuit broke something which was working

Some have received a message from Charles Schwab saying downloads would be enabled on Feb 27th.

This is not an Intuit issue, this is due to changes in browser(Chrome, Edge, Firefox) security updates.

I was attempting to import my financial investment data from Charles Schwab, but I was having the same issues for days where the data would not import even though I would receive a message saying it was successful.  I did the following steps for several attempts:

  • I confirmed that my Charles Schwab files were available on or after 2/13
  • I enabled Third Party access on my Charles Schwab account
  • In Turbo Tax I performed Import from Charles Schwab account to my Turbo Tax Desktop application
  • I Was taken to a website, in Google Chrome, my default browser, that asked for login information.
  • It showed that it was connected and downloading data, then said successfully completed and to go back to my Turbo Tax desktop software application to continue
  • When I went back to Turbo Tax, it didn’t show any data and only allowed me the option to skip import or try to import again.

I did this for several days.

I then cleared my Google Chrome cache/browsing history and it finally worked.

I am having the same issue with imports from Schwab. I was able to download 1099R 2 weeks ago, but all my forms were not ready. Now when I try to load, it selects all the forms, but when it imports, the forms are completely blank. I am using desktop turbotax deluxe

If TurboTax shows a successful import but forms are blank, it is likely due to browser security blocking data transfer, pending brokerage forms, or a need for a screen refresh. Fix this by enabling local network access in your browser, disabling anti-virus software, and updating the program.

Since the IRS already has copies of all your 1099's, using the Summary Method on a tax return is acceptable.
