I'm using TT Premier on Mac Os X. I accidentally added a state to my tax return in which I do not need to file. Could someone tell me how to remove that state? (I don't care about a refund, this was my fault)

Here is how to remove state in the Windows Desktop program. Maybe Mac is similar. Forms is on upper left on Mac
Please follow the instructions in the link below on how to remove a form. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/accessing/help/how-do-i-view-and-delete-forms-in-turbotax-online/0...

@VolvoGirl Thank you so much. That's not quite the same on Mac, but under the File menu there's a Remove Data option that allows me to remove the state. Being in "forms" mode is unnecessary.
@VolvoGirl So this state return is like a zombie return. It appears to be removed each time I do this, but when I reopen the return it's back again. The forms appear to vanish, I save the return and shut down, but there it is again... any ideas?
Sorry I don't know.

I downloaded Wisconsin state (even though I've been a full time Florida resident for 3 years) just because I wanted to see how much state tax I would have to pay if I still lived in WI. Now I went back to my previously saved return, without WI state, but WI is attached to that too! TurboTax has now assumed that I am a WI resident! I tried entering that I am a full time FL resident and a non-resident of WI, but it keeps asking me which WI county I lived in on Dec 31, 2024!!! I tried selecting "Remove State Return" from the File Drop Down Menu, but the popup box does not show any state! So how do I proceed with my almost completed Federal return, without WI state being attached? I want to totally remove any reference to WI (without having to start a new return). Help!
If you didn't see Wisconsin from File > Remove State Return, try clicking on the State Taxes tab > Let's Work on Your State Return. Does WI show under 'Your State Returns'?
When you are in the FILE section, you can indicate that you want to Efile your Federal Return, and if TurboTax asks if you want to Efile your WI return, choose NO. Only your Federal return will be Efiled.
Here's more info on Filing Federal and State Returns Separately.
When I click on the State Taxes tab > Let's Work on Your State Return, in the top left corner is the word "Wisconsin". If I click on File>Remove State Return, I do see "2024 Wisconsin Individual Tax Return", so I click on Remove (and see warning that it cannot be recovered) then when I click continue[phone number removed] it opens a page "Your 2024 Wisconsin Return" and the box for WI Tax Due appears again, so I can continually go through the same cycle and the reference to Wisconsin keeps reappearing - it's not actually being permanently removed, in spite of the warning! What I want is to uninstall or permanently remove WI, as if I never downloaded it. Isn't there a way to do that?
After you remove your Wisconsin return, click back into your Federal return somewhere.
When you go back to State Taxes, it should be gone (like you never downloaded it). However, if you already paid for it, it may not delete.
If you're using TurboTax Online, after removing WI, close the program, and clear your Cache and Cookies.
If WI is still there, you could delete all state forms from your return. Here's How to Delete Forms in TurboTax Online.
In TurboTax desktop, go to FORMS to delete.
In the FILE section, if you indicate you don't want to Efile WI (or only want to Efile Federal), it won't be attached to your Federal (or any other state) return.

So I did "Remove my WI State Return" and went back into my Federal return and at that point there were no WI forms and no WI tax due, but if I click on State Taxes it offers to do my FL return for $40 (which I decline) and it then prompts me to start my WI taxes, since I already downloaded that as my one "free State" as part of the Premium desktop version that I paid for. So WI State is still there, even though I "removed" it!
Apparently once you download a state, it cannot be removed! Ideally there should be an option to save the Federal data (that's already been entered) into a separate file, then start a new return from scratch (without the downloaded WI state) then upload the federal data. But I guess that's not possible. Maybe something for TurboTax to think about?
