I went thru the process again. I will try to e-file this one.
I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to get transcript from IRS.gov, but I keep getting an error message about maintenance. Anyone else having this issue?
I'm going to try this too.I gave up on filing last year for same reason! I hope it works! Thanks!!
I tried the zero today and now it theough me another error now my Ein dont match!
same here -- it took 4 attempts (4th attempt I changed the AGI to 0, that didn't work either) to get me searching for a better solution than having to mail mine in. my husband passed away Dec 5. I tried the FreeTaxUSA that you used & recommended and in LESS THAN 20 MINUTES, the IRS had accepted my federal return!! thank you for posting your experience, dianalarose, it was very helpful to me.
I been try to do my taxes for two year 2018 and 2019 they keep telling me my agi number is wrong I try to get in touch with the irs but no response
If you did not file 2018 before last September then you enter 0 for the AGI to efile 2019. Online is only good for 2019 returns. How are you doing 2018? You have to do each year separately.
Sorry, Online for 2018 and prior is closed now so you can not start a new 2018 return or finish one. Online is only for 2019. Oct 15, 2019 was the last day to efile. 2018 is now the prior year.

You can only buy the download for prior years. You have to buy a separate program for each year. They only sell the last 3 years. You need a full Windows or Mac computer to install it on. Buy the download here

You have to print and mail prior year returns. When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return. Don’t forget state.
Important! Mail Federal and State in separate envelopes and mail each year in separate envelopes.
If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline. You have 3 years to file for a refund. If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one having issues with the AGI. I decided to make an an account on the IRS site so I could see what they had as my AGI. Since you can view( no longer sending them in mail) your info after going through some questions for security reasons (15 mins) I was able to see that they had my AGI $10,000 higher than last year. I'm not sure where they got this from since you can check the info on your tax return on the website. I've e-filed my info again to see if it's approved this time. Thought that this may be useful to those of you having issues.
Everything went through.
Having the same issue but just tried using zero will see if it gets accepted. Rejected 5 times already and i have used turbo tax for years prior without any issues. This is the second issue I have had with this software the first was not taking an earned tax credit and mislabeling it. Spent 86 dollars on the software and so far not worth it at all.
The problem appears to be that TurboTax submits its own view of your 2018 AGI regardless of what you enter to "correct" a rejected efile. If you are using the downloaded version I think you can override this internal value by changing it on the Tax History and Two Year Comparison forms (Forms View). But if you are using the online version it appears there is no way to correct it. It would be nice if someone from TurboTax support was reading this thread and actually answered the issue with something other than "try zero."
Did you see these articles? You can correct the AGI in the Online version and Desktop programs. You need to enter the AGI yourself.
When did you file 2018? If it was late in the year like after September the IRS doesn't have the AGI in the right database to look it up and verify it. So you have to use zero for the AGI.

To correct the AGI in the Desktop program
Those articles do not address the issue. Of course everyone knows to enter a correct amount into a box that says "enter correct amount here." The problem is that TurboTax does not use that amount if you have transferred a different amount from last year's TurboTax return when you first started this year's return. See what I am saying? Even if you filed the correct amount, and the IRS has the correct amount, and you enter this correct amount when attempting to correct a rejected efile.....TURBOTAX OVERRIDES THIS WITH WHAT IT THINKS IS THE AMOUNT FROM LAST YEAR THAT IT PICKS UP FROM THE TRANSFERRED PRIOR RETURN. This happens if you accidentally transferred from a return that has a different AGI from what you eventually filed.
I was rejected 5 times trying to e-file the "correct" amount. It was the amount I filed last year and it was exactly the amount the IRS showed in its database. It was the exact amount I kept entering in the "Let us help you correct that" box. The e-file was eventually accepted if and only if I changed the 2018 AGI value that TurboTax was showing on the two tax forms Two Year Comparison and Tax History. This forced TurboTax to change its internal view - the one it sends with the e-file even when you have tried to correct it - to the correct value.
I don't know how else to explain this.
Why not just look it up on IRS.gov?
