Mac OS Big Sur - When will Turbotax run under this OS?

I actually don't remember. I either found these instructions or they came with the disk.

I bought the CD, but my computer doesn't have a CD drive

That's OK – you can download your software directly from TurboTax.

  1. Go to InstallTurboTax.com.
  2. Set up a TurboTax account if you don't already have one. If you do, sign in. (If you don’t remember your credentials, you can walk through our Account Recovery page to see if you already have an account.)
  3. Enter your license code in the pop up window.
    • It’s a 16-character combination of letters and numbers (XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) that can be found on your CD box insert, envelope, or packing slip. (Note: The 2019 product has a 14-character code that looks like this: [product key removed])
  4. Select your operating system, and select Get Download.
  5. Download your software and install.
    • When you get to the Your product is installed, now let's activate it screen, enter your license code in the License code box, and select Continue to complete installation.

Mac OS Big Sur - When will Turbotax run under this OS?

Thanks.   I did that.  My Amazon TT 2020 code gave an "oops...there's a problem" error.   So, for kicks I put in my Amazon TT 2019 code and it worked.  But it only gave me my "amazon Turbotax 2019" product in the list and the download version was the original.

So, basically, my Mac running 11.1 (Big Sur) is unable to run 2018, 2019 or 2020 (all installed) now.

I uninstalled them all, cleaned everything from ~/Library and installed just the 2019 version direct from Intuit in my products (the Amazon version) and it still failed.  I have no 3rd party Malware or Virus tools installed.

Drop back and punted to a Parallels image of Mac OS 10.15 (Catalina) and am able to use TT 2020 no issue.  A bit of a pain to fire up a VM just to do my taxes, but it will have to do until Intuit gets their S**t together.

Mac OS Big Sur - When will Turbotax run under this OS?

I can't believe I ended up spending time on this again this year after having these exact same problems in 2019. Put an end to the madness by switching to HR Block which easily installed, worked, and uploaded 2019 TT file.

Will never go back. Someone in Software Operations management needs a new job since quality bits can be generated or managed for this product.

Same problem... downloaded and installed. It opened last week just fine. Now when I try to open it says it is looking for updates and then just nothing... ??? Really frustrated with both QB and Turbo Tax problems on Big Sur!!!

Mac OS Big Sur - When will Turbotax run under this OS?

NashaLO -

Did those things you suggested and my release of Big Sur is up to date.

The issue seems to be with Amazon's build of TT 2020 Mac.  It's dated Oct 2020, which is a much earlier patch level. They tell me it's all they have.  But the problem is that it was probably built/released before Big Sur was released.   Intuit should be offering customers with an Amazon serial number a newer build to download and use because Amazon's release won't likely change.  Their 2019 release of TT also doesn't work any more (it did prior to Big Sur upgrade).

There's no way to update it because it simply will not launch after installing it to the Mac OS.  So, it's stuck on the October 2020 build, and absolutely nothing happens when you launch the app.  The icon bounces for a few seconds, and then nothing.  There's not even any activity in my process monitor, and there's no error message of any kind.

I advise your internal support team get the Amazon copy of TT 2020 and test it on Big Sur.  It won't work.

Mac is up to date (big sur 11.1), meets system requirements and followed uninstall/reinstall instructions... still having same problem! Will not open. Says checking for updates and then nothing happens.

Mac OS Big Sur - When will Turbotax run under this OS?

My experience contacting support for one on one help was less than impressive. After an hour and 15 minutes, no resolution.  She basically was giving me steps to troubleshoot being fed to her in an internal online chat from higher level support.  Ultimately she said they couldn’t help me.

I detailed my experience further up thread.

Mac OS Big Sur - When will Turbotax run under this OS?

I'm going to guess that TT "pushed" an update to me.  Don't know how that works, but this time when I opened TT, it downloaded a couple of updates, and eventually ran for me.  I've been able to transfer last year's file to this year, and make some this year entries, and save.  So I'm happy at this point.

For the record, I did a direct download from Intuit, not from Amazon or another source, or from a CD.  I've been using TT for probably 20 years, so I have a clue what I am doing.  Thanks to all for the help!

Mac OS Big Sur - When will Turbotax run under this OS?

Same problem for me here on macOS 11.1 Intel MacBook. Worked fine when I downloaded last week and then updated. Now it takes about 5 minutes to open. After registering the software it gave me the beachball for about 5 minutes. My version was purchased and downloaded from Amazon.

Mac OS Big Sur - When will Turbotax run under this OS?

When I installed TT2020 in November, it worked fine under Catalina. Then I upgraded to Big Sur and now it won't work at all. Uninstalled TT2020 and reinstalled. No difference. Even tried opening TT2019 and it won't run either.

I get the pop-up that it's verifying if everything is up to date. Then nothing. CPU Monitor shows it running briefly and then nothing.

What now?

Mac OS Big Sur - When will Turbotax run under this OS?

I tried to run TT2019 and I have the same problem as I do with TT2020 (which worked fine before I upgraded to Big Sur).
