It doesn't run under Big Sur and multiple error reports have been sent to Intuit. Turbotax ran under the previous version of Mac OS X but not Big Sur.
I've reinstall the OS and TurboTax several times, but it keeps aborting. See the screen shot below. HELP.
Call or chat with tt customer service. It WILL work with big sur.
Please contact TurboTax support for help over the phone.
What is the TurboTax phone number?
AkinaLO- I’ve been through that route (described up thread). You can see all of the comments here and the consistent theme seems to be that the build intuit provided to Amazon is from October 2020 before Big Sur was even released to the public.
I suggest intuit work with Amazon to provide a newer build that you have vetted to be fully functional on Big Sur. It’s a serious gap in the QC that intuit and Amazon need to work out if they’re partners in this:

That would be nice, but I think it gets complicated because the software on the Amazon site is not the same that TurboTax sells or updates. It was a "special build" just for Amazon because it had embedded in it a special "Amazon Only" offer when the program was first opened than no other TurboTax software has. If they replace that build on the Amazon site then that special offer will go away.
I doubt that they will make another special build just for Amazon without a new contract to do so with Amazon.
That was my problem. I downloaded TT2020 Basic for Mac and it worked fine using Catalina. When I upgraded to Big Sur, TT2020 stopped working. I got "verifying everything is up to date" and then it quits. No error message or any other indication why.
I called customer service and she basically told me they were aware of the problem but did not have a timeline for when it would be fixed. She offered me a refund which was not what I wanted. I've been using TT for 20 years and I'm not going to just accept "it won't work, we can't fix it, find something else".
I DID have some options though. My Macbook Pro runs Parallels (virtual machine) which allows me to run Windows software fairly seamlessly. This is how I run MS Office. The Mac version of Office doesn't have MS Access so I NEED Windows.
So - she just put the Windows version of TT2020 in my download list and it works fine with Windows 10 on my Macbook. If TT2020 couldn't work with Windows 10 under Parallels, I was planning to run it on my Windows 10 Surface Pro. It's a full Windows OS - which I use to run MS Access while traveling.

That's what I did and they gave me the Windows version after I told them that was an option I could accept.
The download and installation of Turbotax 2020 Premier from Amazon seemed fine until I tried to open it from the Application folder. Then I got the message, "Turbotax is on a read-only volume" and the suggestion to open the program from the App folder -- which is what I had done. I just updated to Big Sur from Catalina -- do I have to go back?
"Read only volume" usually happens when there is a CD in the CD drive, there is a memory stick mounted, the application was not installed on the main hard drive or some other read only device is mounted.
I have a new iMac running Big Sur 11.2 and TT worked for about an hour, then spontaneously quit and now will not reopen. I purchased TT Home & Business from Costco as a digital download. did call customer service and they provided me with a new download, but the same problem exists. Just for kicks I tried to open TT2019 to see what would happen. It opened and went through a series of updates and then quit and will not reopen. I think the problem is in Big Sur. I'm going to try my luck with Apple support. Pray for me.
I updated my Mac to Big Sur today. Tried to open TurboTax 2020 and it won’t open. Uninstalled and reinstalled TurboTax and still not opening. Anyone have a fix for this problem?
I bought the app as I do every year on Amazon, only this time I'm unable to download Home & Business. Just nowhere to hit the download button. To make matters worse, I am unable to cancel or get a refund.

I did call and chat with TT Customer Service. The technician was very helpful and provided me with a new download of the H&B 2020 software. It simply does not work with Big Sur. The exact problem that everyone is describing in this chat occurred over and over again. I took the same download and installed it on my wife's MacBook that is running on Catalina. It works fine. The problem is Big Sur. Big problem. Needs a Big Solution. Intuit should not be selling this software to Mac users without a disclosure about this problem.
