@DesiLu61 Did you see my answer right above your post? Do you have a high income?
Thank you. So, if this year's AGI happens to be more than 160K, then it is expected to be NOT prompted then? Also, then, don't need to enter received amounts anywhere in Turbo Tax then? Just to make sure. Thanks again.
Correct. Since you are not eligible for the credit on the return what you got in advance is immaterial.
During the Federal Review, I am not even getting the box to be able to enter data about Letter 6475. Is it based on total income? or AGI? AGI is within the limit. Is there a section I can go back to that I need to correct? Does anyone know?

There are only two reasons the stimulus question will not be available -
1. You are being claimed as a dependent (or)
2. Your 2021 Adjusted Gross Income is over the maximum for receiving the Recovery Rebate Credit
• Single or married filing separately—$80,000
• Married filing jointly or qualifying widow(er)—$160,000
• Head of household—$120,000
You keep your 3rd stimulus payment, it does not have to be paid back.
Look at your tax return for the 2021 AGI, Form 1040 Line 11
You can view your Form 1040 at any time using the online editions. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.
Where is the amount on Letter 6475 entered on the 1040?
You need to enter the amount you got to see if you qualify for any more. On your tax return, Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more.
To get to the stimulus questions in TurboTax at any time, you can search for stimulus or recovery rebate credit then hit ENTER and there should be a Jump to link
If you are trying to trigger it,
Click on Other Tax Situations at top
Click on Let's get started
Answer some questions then Continue
Then click on Let's keep going
Next screen is for the Third Stimulus, if you qualify
If you did not get prompted to enter your stimulus information, that means you either:
When I entered the sum of the two(2) 6475 letters my wife and I received my tax due increased from zero(0) to $1400. Filing joint, retired. Why do I now owe money?
What you may not realize is that as soon as you began to prepare your tax return, the software was giving you the $1400 and it was shown on that "refund monitor" -----but when you entered that you received it already, the software had to reconcile the payment you received, You cannot get it twice---so it looked to you like you "lost" $1400. You did not lose it nor were you taxed on it---you just cannot receive it twice.
You owe for some other reason--like perhaps not having enough tax withheld during the year.
I received the above letter and I cannot find it. I will be 94 next month and don't remember seeing an amount.
I received on stimulus check for $600 deposited on 1/18/21 and another one deposited on 3/24/21 for $1400.
The letter stated I may be able to get one more check. I waited on the phone for over 4 hours and when the IRS
answered she said she could not give out any information and hung up. Hope you can help!
3/24/2021 for 1400 WAS the 3rd Stimulus payment. That's the only one that goes on your 2021 tax return. Say YES you got it and enter the 1400.
Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more.
Is it just me or does it seem like TurboTax just glossed over several important clarifications this year? Why on Earth would it not just say what to do right in the software? Does the number on the letter(s) match? No, the number the software shows does not match the number shown on my letter(s). Would it have killed them to say "If you received more than one letter, use the total from all letters"? Instead of TurboTax giving CLEAR instructions, we get 11 pages of people going back and forth asking about what they should do; and the answers all come from "contributors" who may or may not be experts. I can see where users see the information given and assume their total doesn't match and enter the total that shows on the letter; especially since the number on each letter is the same. While it's nice that we have the community as a reference, but this year's software is ridiculously incompetent compared to previous iterations.
Does it match WHAT? TT can't guess at what the number should be - this isn't supposed to be a "matching" excercise. TurboTax needs to know what the letters say, so that it can calculate your remaining tax credit. If you got the full amount for all 6 months then you got exactly 50% of the credit. In that case, it might match the remaining credit, but that is coincidence. TurboTax isn't asking you to confirm anything matches, it needs for you to enter a number. Possibly two numbers.
This is a straight input question. What is on your letter, what is on your spouse's letter if filing jointly? That's the question, and it's asking exactly that. It's not asking you if something or other matches. Enter what is on your letter, just like the program asks.
This answer could not be more incorrect. It says does it match your letter; it doesn't say "does it match the total of both letters?" Just because you know the answer in advance of seeing my question doesn't mean it's not ambiguous. It literally says Does 4200 match what is on your letter(s). 4200 does not match what is on my letters. Why is that so hard to comprehend? Nowhere in the software does it say "Add together if you got two or more letters." It ONLY says "does this number match what is on your letter(s) and it most certainly does not (and in my case not even if I add them together.) So when nothing matches, adding them or not, how do I know for certain that the software intends for me to add the total of each letter? I'm not the only one who was confused by this so please don't just call people stupid because the software isn't clear on the matter.
That's why we're here. To clarify the directions if you need that.
