IRS Letter 6475

@Culloa27

There is nothing you need to do ... the IRS is checking this line and will adjust it automatically.

Married filing jointly. I received only one Letter 6475, my name, $1400. My wife did not receive a letter. The program asks you to enter the amount on your 6475 letter.  That's what I did. I hope it was right.

IRS Letter 6475

@JRS7  Did you check your bank account to see how much you actually got?  Did you file a Joint return last year?  If you had 1,400 on line 30 for her and the IRS already sent it they will automatically take it off your return and reduce your refund or send to a bill for tax due.  It will delay your return.   People have been getting the second letter after they filed.   If you get it you do not have to amend.

Yes, filed jointly last year and every year so the program knows that. I just followed TurboTax's directions: Enter the amount from Letter 6475. It did not give an option for both spouses. We'll see what happens.

The note for this page says to add the payments together.

You will get two letters and you enter the total of both letters.

Okay, but we only got one letter with $1400 which I entered on my tax returns. I understand if the IRS finds a discrepancy they will just adjust your refund and not reject the entire return?

IRS Letter 6475

We only got one letter for me my husband never received one however I know we both received the stimulus payment so I indicated $2800. An incorrect amount will result in a long wait while they verify what they sent you.

IRS Letter 6475

OK people ... if you got 2800 as a married couple then you enter 2800 ( or 1400 each) even if you did not get the stupid reminder letter.   Those 6475 letters are going out thru March and it is possible that a married couple may never get both letters but that should not stop you from verifying how much you got in advance another way ... either by looking at your records or online with the IRS.  If you do enter an incorrect amount the IRS will simply adjust the return automatically ... expect this to delay the refund for an unknown time frame.

I'm using turbotax Deluxe and I am not getting the IRS form 6475 pop-up anywhere.  The example shown is "premier".  Is the only option to validate my Economic Impact Payments available in Premier and not Deluxe?

The question concerning the 3rd stimulus payment is in All the TurboTax programs.

However, if you have indicated that you can be claimed as a dependent or your Adjusted Gross Income for your filing status is above the maximum allowed for the stimulus payment the question will not be asked.

Enter either stimulus or recovery rebate credit in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen.  Click on on Jump to stimulus or Jump to recovery rebate credit.

IRS Letter 6475

@David1123  No.  It is in all versions even the Free Edition.

To get to the stimulus questions in TurboTax at any time, you can search for stimulus or recovery rebate credit then hit ENTER and there should be a Jump to link

If you are trying to trigger it,

Click on Other Tax Situations at top

Click on Let's get started

Answer some questions then Continue

Then click on Let's keep going

Next screen is for the Third Stimulus, if you qualify

If you did not get prompted to enter your stimulus information, that means you either:

  1. Filed as a dependent being claimed on another tax return, or
  2. have an AGI too high to claim the recovery rebate

I have 6475 letters for both my wife and I at 1400. I am not getting prompted to enter this amount anywhere. I tried manually triggering and cannot. We don't have kids, so no EIC. I get that I'm not eligible for the rebates as my agi is probably too high. But shouldn't I be able to enter the 2800 somewhere??

If you are filing as Married Filing Jointly and your AGI is $160,000 or higher then you are not eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit so the question about receiving the 3rd stimulus payment will not be asked.

I have a bit of a different situation.  In 2020, I made too much for any get any kind of stimulus distribution.  As I'm doing my taxes for 2021, TT is saying that I qualify for the 3rd stimulus and to put the amount noted on IRS Letter 6475.  I never received such a letter or the stimulus, though I did receive unemployment in 2020, which I put under 'Income'.  Do I just put in an amount of $0?   I know this may sound stupid, but I don't want my tax return to go into a black hole for 7 months, like it did last year.  Thank you.
