If I choose file by mail does turbo tax mail my return or do I have to do it

TurboTax does not mail your return for you.  You have to print it, sign it, and mail it yourself.  When you mail a tax return, you need to sign it on the bottom of the page where it says "Sign Here" and write in the date you signed it by the word "Date".  Attach copies of your W-2 and any other documents that show taxes withheld to the left side of the papers where it says "Attach Forms..."

When you print your return, it will print with filing instructions that tell you where to mail it.

It is not required, but is a good idea, to use a mailing service that will track your return or provide you with a receipt showing that the IRS got it--such as Fedex, UPS, or certified mail.

It will take about 4 weeks and then you can track the status of your return at the IRS website.

You can print your return by following the instructions below

1 Select the My Account drop down in the upper right and choose Print Center.

2 Under the Choose your option section, select which forms you want to print.

3 Click Print save or preview this year’s return.

4 Click Print.

5 Mail to the address specified in your return

Tip: You must be inside your return when you click on My Account

To send your tax return by mail and get a receipt to see that the IRS received it:

To track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

On the IRS site you are also offered the use of an app called IRS2Go

To access your current year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.

This will take you back to the 2019 online tax return.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Please be aware that the very backlogged IRS is taking a LONG time to process mailed returns.  They are working on opening over 11 million pieces of mail that piled up during the pandemic.  So if you are filing by mail, expect a long wait for a refund if you are getting one.  You will not see anything on the IRS refund site until a human opens your envelope and enters the data into the system.

how many pages is it that I will be Mailing cause it only printed 18 pages and some are instructions for mailing payment but not where to send 1040 ? Or do they both go to same Address?

Read your mailing instructions more carefully.   Federal and state returns go to different addresses -- each one in its own envelope.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Okay so what if TurboTax says I filed by mail already but I didn’t and the IRS received the EFile and on Turbo it says rejected.

@CamaDav671

“Ready to mail”or “Printed”  means that your tax return has not been filed.  Either you could not e-file for some reason , or you chose to file by mail.  OR if you really did already mail your return, the software does not have any way to know that you put your return in an envelope and took it to a mailbox, so it will always say “ready to mail” in your online account.

TurboTax does not mail your return for you.  You have to print it, sign it, and mail it yourself.  When you mail a tax return, you need to sign it where it says "Sign Here" and write in the date you signed it by the word "Date".  Attach copies of your W-2 and any other documents that show taxes withheld to the left side of the papers where it says "Attach Forms..."

When you print your return, it will print with filing instructions that tell you where to mail it.  Pay careful attention to the address you mail your return to —federal and state returns do not get mailed to the same place.

And none of that makes any sense. I didn’t download a form and send it. If that was the case, I wouldn’t have a TAX PREPARER on my 1040. And also, I wouldn’t have even tried to e-file.

next, why does TurboTax keep putting me on hold until the call drops? And also, why did you guys send another EMAIL saying I filed by mail. But the first email says I didn’t file with them at all. Get your story straight because i need some answers. There’s nearly $400 missing from my refund for a service that apparently I never received and rude agents keep trying to give me the run around.

@CamaDav671 Your post was added to an old thread full of posts from multiple users.  We have no context here for your issue.   Apparently this is on ongoing problem you are having---but what you posted here did not explain that.  No one in the user forum is going to be able to sort it out.   It becomes confusing for you and for those of us who are trying to help if you post the same issue in multiple threads in the forum.   Your help is going to have to come from customer support.  Hope they are able to figure it out with you.
