When you chose E-file and you enter your 2019 AGI or last year's self-select pin, you electronically sign your documents. You don't need to physically sign your return unless you chose to file by mail.
Please view the instructions below for more details on how to upgrade to PLUS. If you have already filed your 2019 tax return using the Free Edition without PLUS, then you need to upgrade to PLUS and pay first to access your prior year return. Please follow the instructions below: Login to TurboTax.com On the Tax Home screen click "show" to see all your tax returns & documents. Under 2019 click on "Add a State." (We are not actually adding a state, but need to get back to the page to upgrade to PLUS.) Click "upgrade" on from the left menu. (If it is greyed out, you already upgraded and can close out of there.) Now, click on "Tax Tools" from the left menu. Click "Print Center." Select "Print This year's Return." (Not Prior year's return or you will get knocked out of the return.) Click "Pay Now" to pay for PLUS to access the prior year's return. If you have not already filed your 2019 tax return, please click on the link below for more instructions.
This one will help you upgrade if you haven't started your 2019 return yet. https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/3402466

I hit paper file by mistake. Now what can I do to switch it to e- file
You can try to switch to efile. Click on Add a State to let you back into your retun.
I have tried to efile my 2019 federal and state returns. Both have been rejected due to the lack of a federal IP PIN #. I have received the IP PIN#; however, it is a 6 digit PIN and Turbo Tax - Premier will only accept a 5 digit PIN #.
I would prefer to efile and NOT mail in these 2019 returns.
The five digit pin is an electronic signature pin that can be any 5-digit number you choose.
