I want to change my filing option the FREE I don’t want the deluxe or max

WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY?  I WANT THE FREE EDITION

The information that you can enter in Free Edition is pretty limited now.  Thanks to the new tax laws that began for 2018 returns, there are no more simple Form 1040EZ or 1040A's.  Everything goes on a Form 1040 that has three extra "schedules" with it, and if you need any of those schedules, you are not able to use the Free Edition.

At some point you will be required to upgrade and the reason, price and choice is presented to you and you must agreed to continue .  https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-1040

Turbo Tax has different versions that handle different tax situations and their associated forms. For example, if you got upgraded to Deluxe because you're itemizing (Schedule A), you can clear and start over in Free Edition if you did not pay yet, but as soon as you've entered sufficient itemized deductions to exceed your standard deduction, you'll be asked to upgrade to Deluxe again. Please see the link below for more information:  Why do I have to upgrade from Free Edition?

Try the following to print right after filing: You can locate the worksheets that were included in your tax return by accessing a complete copy of your tax return from the Print Center. The PDF file of your tax return, that is located on the tax home page will not include the worksheets.  Please note: this may not work until your return has been accepted.

Please see the steps below to obtain a complete copy of your tax return which would include all worksheets and payment vouchers ect:

  1. Sign in to your account (if you haven't already done so), using the same login you used to file your return.

  2. Scroll down to My Tax Returns and Documents and click on show.

  3. Next scroll down and click on Add a State (you are not really adding a state, this will allow you to get back into the program.)

  4. In the left side panel click on Tax Tools then click on Print Center.

  5. Next select Print, save or preview this year's return.

  6. Then select the option to print your 2020 federal and state returns (shortest version). You can also select the option to Include government worksheets (optional) (medium-length version) and/or You can also select Include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional) (longest version). Then select View or print forms.

  7. This will allow you to print your complete tax file.

The TurboTax Free online edition is for very simple tax returns that do not require any other form or schedule other than the Form 1040.  If your tax data requires entry on any other form or schedule then you must upgrade to the Deluxe edition or higher.

If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over with a lower priced edition. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the program screen while working on the 2020 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over.

@Terry Storm

Not sure but are you trying to update your CC for the advantage plan where you get the program sent to you automatically?   And are you trying to switch to Basic (remember basic has no state return ... if you need a state you need Deluxe or better).  If so ...  log in to the your account then (and in this order) ...

First ...update the CC info

Next ... add the basic if you are changing

Last ... remove the Deluxe
