How do I resolve Reject Code F540/NR/2EZ-320?

Here's how you can fix it:

Sign in to your account and select the Fix my return button. Follow any “fix it” instructions to update the information causing the rejection.

Note: Not all rejections will have explicit guides to fix the information. You’ll need to navigate to the program area to address the cause of the rejection.

Time-saving Tip: If what you originally entered is correct, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, a dependent that's already been claimed, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return. This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.

Additional reject instruction here.

Does TurboTax refund when they charge you for a state e-file that can't be completed? I am getting error code F540/NR/2EZ-320 but am able to confirm by logging into ftb.ca.gov that California has NOT already received a 2019 tax return from us. I know the SSN information in my tax return is accurate; it was transferred from the previous year, and I have checked it. If I have to paper file under these circumstances, why did I pay TurboTax $25 for the state e-file?

If you paid the $24.99 state income tax return e-file fee by credit card when using the TurboTax desktop CD/Download editions and the state return cannot be e-filed, then you can contact TurboTax support for a refund.

To contact TurboTax customer service/support use their contact website during business hours. If the problem concerns any type of refund for fees, use the key words billing issues and do Not use the word Refund or you will get a phone number for tax refunds.
