That is correct, once you enter the etrade Morgan Stanley credentials, it just tries to establish the connection and then nothing happens. I am surprised when we have already indicated this is desktop version on Mac, why are the same turbo tax experts asking to clear the cache? This is some issue with turbo tax, I even provided logs indicated and error code from TurboTax hoping that support might be able to review the error message and point to the correct resolution, someone from TurboTax needs to provide an update??
So my usual daily routine now is to launch TurboTax and see if there is an update. This morning there was an update. Yay! Hope was riding high at this point I would finally be able to do my taxes. I then attempt the import again and it fails. Again. Hope spirals down and crashes. But this time there was a different error in the logs:

I'm 100% positive I'm using the correct password. I then tried the following:
* Completely disabled MFA on the account and tried it. Failed.
* Changed my password again to the absolute stupid minimum acceptable. Failed again.
* Entered my userID in all caps. Failed again.
* Uttered a number of words out loud that cannot be repeated on this forum. At least that succeeded.
Checking the logs again it has reverted back to the same error that @coolduggar posted originally:

It would be helpful if Support could at least give us a clue as to the issue and maybe what these codes mean. Can I buy a vowel here?
Another update for the Support folks. I contacted eTrade again and they confirmed there are no failed logins from my account. Every attempt has been successful. They indicated that only the username and password is used and not the MFA code. Great. But we are are still having a failure to communicate here. So I started doing some more digging and it turns out the software does not make a direct connection to eTrade. Instead it connects to an AWS gateway that is managed by Intuit. Using some network packet captures I was able to determine my system hits the following servers and does communicate with them:
financialcredsgateway-aws.api.intuit.com
import-tax-aws.tax.intuit.com
ttdsplunkhec.api.intuit.com
eventbus.intuit.com
This leads me to believe the issue is on that back end system that communicates with eTrade.
Confirming the same observations. I did sniff on the wire too and came to the same conclusion. All signs point to TurboTax backend. I wonder if their support is able to open a ticket or something, or just sitting there to send links to useless faq's.
So I was finally able to resolve this issue. I downloaded and installed H&R Block Premium. Got to the eTrade 1099 OFX import section and it worked flawlessly. Sorry TurboTax. Been using your product for decades now and this is the first time it failed for me. Was not willing to wait around for a fix that may not come. For those are curious, the H&R software works almost identical to TurboTax so really no learning curve required.
I can confirm that HR block import works fine, the problem is with TurboTax and before they resolve the issue, their support needs to understand the issue rather than throwing meaningless articles our way.
Same Error. Tired !
For me, E-trade, Robinhood, etc failing constantly for last 2 days
We are looking into the import issue. Thank you for your patience.
It's going to be many hours of work to enter everything manually. i know as soon as I do it Turbo Tax will fix this bug. I wish they would at least admit there is a bug. Still not working today.
I was able to import all 1099 forms from e*trade using Desktop Premier version.
There must be some updates. Try again guys.
Can you please check the number of transaction lines on your 1099? If the total number is 1000+ (including interest and dividends), then TurboTax Desktop does not support 1,000+ lines. In that case, please summarize your transactions.
You will need to summarize them by the holding period: short-term or long-term. As well as basis reported or not reported to the IRS. All that information is broken down for you on Form 1099-B.
When summarizing noncovered transactions, the IRS requires that either 1099-B is attached to the return or mailed to the IRS together with Form 8453.
Here is an article that will help you enter that information.

Still not working for me. I guess I have more than 1000+ transactions as KristinaK has indicated. Last year I also had more than 1000 transactions and was able to import the data from etrade without any issues.
@KristinaK I just did my best to count. The transactions are not numbered so it's hard to tell exactly how many but I counted 42 transactions on the first page and even rounding that up to 50 and rounding up other partial pages to 50 I only got to 750 transactions, so I think I'm ok.
Also, my wife has far fewer transactions on her account and that account is also not working for import so I don't think this is the problem we are having.
Finally, and I really feel pretty strongly about this as someone who has spent my career in the consumer software space myself, if the issue is too many lines, your software needs to be able to detect that and give the user an error telling them that is the problem. It's not acceptable to simply do nothing and leave them stuck. This doesn't sound like a particularly hard thing to do in software -- counting and giving some sort of error -- and without this you're going to drown in customer service costs forever on this issue.
Etrade Import is still not working for me, i have fewer than 100 transactions.
Thank you for your feedback, @hyperkik ! You must be facing another issue. I will convey your message to the tech team.
@coolduggar Please give the tech team a bit more time to figure out what is going on. Thank you!
