The only way I was able to install my Deluxe Version was to contact TT and demand an updated .exe file The person that helped me was David. He linked me to an updated .exe file with a new License Code. My bad file version ended in [phone number removed]. The file that worked ended in [phone number removed]. It has been a very frustrating experience with TT this year
Using the following to avoid numbers being eliminated by TT because they say it is a phone number
A=0, B=1 & C=2
The Bad Version is CACA.ABA.ABAB, The Good Version is CACA.BAA.ABAB
I finally got this to work. Agonizing. Intuit, no help at all, their help is the worst, including even trying to connect with them. Tried all their solutions, but to no avail. My solution that finally worked on getting the downloaded file to install without the notorious "failed to extract archive" message. The solution is making sure that anti-virus and firewalls are off, but with one very important addition that Intuit does not mention. Ok, here are my steps:
1. Delete all downloaded turbotax install files. Those pesky .exe files that kept giving the failed to extract message. In your download directory you shouldn't have any of those.
2. Turn-off your anti-virus and firewall settings. I use Norton 360 so I disabled those for 1 hour in the software.
3. Download your turbotax installation file again. Make note of where it gets downloaded to (i.e. which directory).
4. This is the key Important part that made the difference. Need to add the downloaded turbotax install file as an exclusion for Microsoft Defender Antivirus. Here is how you do that:
a. Open Windows Settings. Can get to by clicking on Windows Start icon and selecting PC Settings.
b. Click the Update and Security, then Windows Security, then Virus and Threat protection.
c. In the Virus and Threat protection window, scroll down and find "Virus & Threat Protection settings" and select Manage settings.
d. In the window that opens, scroll down and find "Exclusions" and click on Add or remove exclusions.
e. Click Add an exclusion and select File. Browse to the folder where you downloaded the turbotax install file and select it and click Open. This should now add that file in the Exclusions list.
5. Now go find that turbotax install file and double-click it to install. Hopefully it will work without the dreaded "Failed to extract" message.
In summary, it looks like Microsoft Defender Antivirus is the culprit. But, if you are using another anti-virus like Norton, you can't really turn Microsoft Defender off. By default, it seems to still be checking files in the background. So adding that turbotax install file as an exclusion seems to tell Defender to ignore it.
Really hope this helps others, as it was a huge 3 day frustration for me and Intuit offered no help whatsoever. Best to all.
Hi Quizzie, I posted a solution that might work for you. See my post on page 7 of this forum under Grizz-MT. This was a real hassle for me, and Intuit was no help at all. I kept at it and finally figured out a solution that worked for me. Hope it works for you. Would love to hear back if it works for you.
Mine is Windows 10, the Failed to extract archive message remains. Bought the download from Dell. Its April 3, 2020 now, I am desperate for help. Have tried many things.

What is the TurboTax phone number?
See my comment above for a potential fix for you.
This is the same "Failed to extract archive" problem. The purchased downloaded software came with a TT exe. file, a WinRar License ziparchive, and a WinRar Orders zip archive. Apparently the License zip file is empty and when I double clicked on it, it gives a message that "either unknown format or damaged". When I double clicked Orders file, it contains a Microsoft Excel file describing the purchase. Does anyone know whether, somehow, the TT exe file is looking at the wrong zip file? Is it possible that the exe file should look at Orders file instead of License file?
Have you tried the steps listed in this Turbo Tax FAQ?
Error: "Failed to extract archive"
I have tried those suggestions, but no dice. Thanks.

I do not see why I have to change settings on my computer such as get out of S mode to install a CD? I have automatically installed with no problem, used Turbo Tax successfully for over 10 years. Inserted cd run came up
with no problem and began doing my tax. I did this on Windows 10 last year.
Did they fix this for you yet? I bought TT Deluxe 2020 from Amazon last week & have now spent over ten-hours working on solution; guessing I should request refund and go use something else...
I have the same problem. Have contacted Support several times. Allowed screen share they could not correct, refunded me with no resolve. So I guess I will use a different provider.
