I e-filed my federal return last year and mailed my state, but I can't find the returns anywhere. They're not on my laptop and they're not in the cloud. I can readily find every year's returns, except last year's. I have years of carryovers and my 2021 returns seem to have vanished. Any ideas on where they could be?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You have to access your own account and/or print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.
Start a 2022 return online and enter some personal information so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.
Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them. Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax? If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

I used the desktop version, but I can't find the 2021 files anywhere on my hard drive or in cloud storage (my files are backed up every day).
Make sure you search your computer hard drive. They do get saved there and sometimes labeled wrong or put in other or unexpected folders.
Go here to find a prior year return, and go here to find last year's AGI.
The most common reason for not finding returns is signing in with the wrong user ID, which can happen if you have multiple accounts. It’s best to use the same account every year so all of your tax returns will be stored in one place.
If you need to find an account, our account recovery tool can help you find your user ID or password.
Other common situations include:
If you used TurboTax Desktop/CD Version:
Your return is stored locally on your computer's hard drive. We don't store your return on our servers like we do with TurboTax Online.
Look for your return on your Windows or Mac computer or request a copy from the IRS.
Filing another return in the same account replaces any other tax return you filed with that account. There's no way to recover it in TurboTax Online. You'll need to order a copy from the IRS.
To prevent this from happening again, create a separate user ID for each return. Find out how to start a second return in TurboTax Online.
Mine was in the USERS folder on the C: drive
