If you find another tax preparation software company that still provides a CD for tax year 2024, please post a link so that we can inform other users.
You haven’t said why you want the CD. You can’t install or reinstall the CD (or download) after 3 years anyway. Did you see my answer on your other post? You can burn the download installation file to a CD or flash drive to make your own CD.
AND, if you download the installation file again, later in the tax year (like in June) that new download will contain all the software updates up to that point in time.......so it can be used right away to reinstall on a new computer, without updating.....(other than getting the state, but I noticed that TTX has now been putting a state download in the download account too, once you've selected and used one) ,
The CD will always be the mostly useless beta version.
"I have the copy of the 1st version made"
I'm not sure how that's relevant to getting a CD for 2024. The first version of TurboTax was in 1984. It's certainly not a CD. It must be a floppy disk, probably a 5¼-inch floppy disk. Do you even have a drive that can read it? Do you just want a CD so you can display it as a historical curiosity, alongside your floppy disks?
Using the cd/dvd is so much easier. Pop it in and it automatically does the updates for you. Since you have already purchased it , no messing with payments AND you know it is legite. Plus , as some suggested - you dont have to burn anything. You already have a copy.
You can now buy an install CD for $10 AFTER you buy the download and License Code for the version you want. That’s if you don’t want to use the download method or want to reinstall or install it another computer.
TurboTax® Desktop 2024-2025 | Tax Software Download
Since you now have to log into an Intuit Account all your downloads and licenses are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to download to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac).
thanks. In my opinion , buying a retail disk was much easier and SAFE. It is already paid for. Pop it in and it does the updates automatically and your good to go. No messing with payments. Pop it in and go and you know it is legite. That is why we like the dvd . No burning , downloading , or payments necessary. I would pop it in and in 3 minutes or less the updates were installed if any and i was doing my taxes. Cant beat that. Why is there a need to ruin what worked ?
Maybe it is just me ,but, when i go in to my account , just downloading previous year returns is a pain. Just show me a PDF file and give me what I paid for. I just want the file. So TIRED OF LETS GET STARTED. I already did that. JUST GIVE ME MY FILE PLEASE .
If you used the Desktop program on your computer your returns and the .tax20xx data files and any pdf file you made and saved are only on that computer and NOT stored or saved Online even if you efiled them.
You can download the program. Access your ptograms downloads here

Absolutely! I strongly prefer to control the software I purchase versus having to depend on an ISP, connectivity, S/W originator, etc -- cannot download when I do NOT Have WiFi access (on travel/for example!!!) Why keep reducing the product while increasing the cost?? Oh, because the customers' do not complain & keep on buying.. I've been a user since TTax UNO, and kep all DVDs for past several years.... 2024 verision = Annoying
Not having a CD/DVD option cuts deeply on those of us that live in rural areas. Not everyone has the ability to just "plop a download/update to their computer".
1) Our internet is metered with data limits.
2) Slower internet and my anti-virus pulls my system to a halt with large downloads.
3) Without install control, I cannot queue the updates to my schedule. With a CD install, I can install the software and then only choose the update when my internet is plugged in -- yes, hard wired PLUGGED IN.
4) Windows update service is disabled on my system. See three above. When wanting an update download, I reactivate the update service and only then, continue. If Turbo Tax is tapping into the update service engine in Windows, the whole thing will crash.
5) I live my computer life LOCAL. All my software is local, my data is local, my computers do not access the cloud, and my control of what goes on with my computer remains mine.
Since I am required by law to do tax returns the least that can happen is a way for me to do them with the least amount of hassles to the consumer. That means provide a CD/DVD that I can pick up locally at the nearest office store (in our case a 148 mile one way trip) so that I do not have to shut down my business specifically for a day of downloading ONLY Turbo Tax Home and Business.
I'm with mralex on the one.
The other tax software companies have eliminated CD's and are only offering downloads. AFTER you have paid for a TT download and have your license key, you can purchase an installation CD if you want one.
