We understand you are having an experience with entering your AGI. Please follow the instructions in this link: (AGI help). If this does not resolve your issue, what is the exact message you are getting?

My taxes have been rejected saying the AGI doesnt match. but the AGI im entering is the same number i received from the IRS transcript...HELP!!!!

Mine says "The IRS already rejected this number".

The AGI shown matches what Turbotax shows for 2019, which also matches my transcript from the IRS. My son (also using Turbotax) had his rejected last year for the same reason; had to file by mail and STILL has yet to have his tax refund issued. I cannot wait that long if filing by mail.

Please help!

Same issue as what was described in the above comment. Spoke with Turbo Tax and the IRS, and each has admitted that they have had numerous phone calls regarding this issue, but neither has a solution nor a foreseeable correction, other than the "file by mail" option. I had to make a correction by mail last year for my 2019 return, in March, which elongated the process of my return to February of 2021. After receiving my return in the form of a check, I viewed my 2019 Transcript on the IRS website to verify that my 2019 AGI matched with what I filed with Turbo Tax, which it does. I corrected and resubmitted my 2020 return over 10 times, using different AGI's (2018, $0, 2019 Wages without additional income, 2019 AGI again, different 5 digit identification code -- which isn't related to older returns as it isn't a SelF Select PIN) in hopes that I could have it accepted via e-file, all of which resulted in the same rejection code IND-031-04. I then gave up on Turbo Tax and filed with TaxAct to see if it would go through via a different program and... again, rejection code IND-031-04. WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN HERE, because the IRS RECOMMENDS E-FILING over paper filing as they know the circumstances, is that Turbo Tax NEEDS TO SPEAK WITH THE IRS to correct whatever barrier is holding up THEIR CLIENTS E-FILE return... many of us having paid $$$ to prepare our returns, making there lack of support unacceptable...  please don't fall back on "mail it in..." I mean, what if I held up your paycheck for over a year? Would that be acceptable? NO, there would be a lawsuit!!!

THE IRS JUST UPDATED THEIR WEBSITE! Now when you use $0, it ACTUALLY works! I used $0 a few times over the past few days to no avail. It seems that they decide to take action...

FYI my 2019 IRS Transcript SHOWS my actualy AGI, which isn't $0, and that number didn't work and isn't working, so even if you also can see your AGI and also have tried $0, try it again today!!

I just went through a few attempts to e-file to no avail. I kept getting the IND-031-04 error for my AGI. I finally set the AGI to 0 and resubmitted. It was rejected again but for code IND-032-04. So, I set my spouse's AGI to 0 and resubmitted. It was accepted! I hadn't seen the prior couple of replies in this thread about setting AGI to zero. This works. So, for anyone still struggling, try it. This should fix it.

Is there a workaround for this issue?

Possibly splitting the AGI if married filing jointly

?

Just put 0 (zero) in for the AGI for both you and your spouse. It will be accepted. Mine was. It's apparently the IRS fix.

The same thing is happening to me and I used H and R block online. Keeps rejecting me due to AGI/PIN number being wrong. I checked the AGI on the IRS tax record and it’s accurate. I mailed my return last year, so I don’t have a PIN number. Last year I had to mail in the return because my husband needed to apply for an ITIN number and if has to be mailed. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. But I do t want to keep having to mail in my return! The IRS needs to get it together!

Update: I tried the 0 trick and it worked. I can’t believe that! What a joke!

Please see below for information on your AGI being correct but the IRS is rejecting your return:

My AGI is correct, but I still get rejected with IND-031 or -032

For some reason, the IRS has a different AGI in their database. You need to find out what number they have so you can e-file.

Start by getting a free IRS transcript for your 2019 return.  (If you're filing jointly in 2020 but your spouse filed their own return in 2019, also get a transcript for your spouse).

On your transcript, look for ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME (you may need to look on page 2). This is the number in the IRS database. Make sure the AGI you enter matches this number exactly.

If you're unable to order an IRS transcript, try entering 0 as your AGI, assuming you haven't already gone that route. You can also try entering last year's signature ID (instructions below).

Failing that, you can opt to file a paper return; follow the solution steps above, except select File by mail when it appears.

See this TurboTax for more information on AGI rejections:

It's not the IRS; it's the program you use to prepare and submit your taxes. TT has a bug regarding AGI; unfortunately, HR Block has the same bug. I ended up using FreeTaxUSA with the same AGI, and my return was accepted within minutes.

Glad some of you are able to file your taxes by entering 0. I recall this worked for some taxpayers last year and not for others. I was in the latter category and ended up dumping TT and looking elsewhere. No way was I going to file a stupid paper return.

I called the IRS and they told me that it’s all automated and to try to adjust the AGI by a few dollars. Obviously didn't work. The 0 trick did though for whatever reason. Wherever the blame is they need to get it together. Millions of people need to file.

My taxes have been rejected saying the AGI doesnt match. but the AGI im entering is the same number i received from the IRS transcript...HELP!!!!

I am troubled to read many other people also can't submit electronically because of the "AGI issue." And no one from TT seems to have responded, other than to say its a problem with the IRS's database. Is it an IRS software problem or a TT software problem? I went online and obtained my 2019 tax transcript from the IRS. Entered that for the AGI - rejected. Entered zero for AGI - rejected.  I hope someone from TT can respond more directly on this continuing issue. Thank you.
