@raoulwatson. By the way, please look at your tax return from last year. Was it reported on Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR? Thank you.
Not to butt in but I just did a successful transfer from a 2020 TT pdf 1040SR into 2021. It worked for me. Into Windows 8.1 Home & Business program.
This is what I got from Transferring from a Turbo Tax PDF
Yes but that is ALL that transfers from a PDF ... much more comes across from the .taxfile. Prior year comparison info, IRA contributions, assets, payer info for W-2s and 1099s, etc.
Hi Dan... it was 1040SR. If your engineers want it, I can send it to them (I am a public servant and got nothing to hide... LOL). I did try a couple of things since the PDF is my amended return includes New York State and Virginia. When I just pull the 1040SR (4 pages extracted by Adobe), that file got the "import was unsucessful"
Again, I can assure you that the file is not scanned but generated by TT (and I have checked internally its a genuine PDF file with stream and endstream markers.
Out of curiosity, do you remember what option in TT you selected to get the output last year? Does it have the headers like this?
@DanielV01 I do have one additional info for your engineers.
Looking at TT instructions (at https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/saving/help/how-do-i-save-my-return-as-a-pdf-in-the-turbotax-softw...) clearly there are two ways of getting a PDF.
Maybe I should have used the "Save as PDF" option rather than going through the "Print Center" Since the "Print Center" allow you to pick and chose what to include perhaps that causes problems (just FYI, I included everything, i.e. I did not chose to not include a form).
Earlier, I did take an opportunity to look up what has been reported on this issue. We did have a report on it in December, and the report came back stating that PDFs of 1040-SR are not supported. I'm appreciative that VolvoGirl was able to get hers started, although I'm also curious to know if all of the information was fully processed. As mentioned before, it can help us to help others. Our current Help Articles are being updated to reflect that information.
I'm certain that this answer isn't what you wanted to hear, but I hope it's at least an explanation. But again, thank you for your contribution in this conversation, and I hope we were able to provide a satisfactory answer if not a satisfactory resolution.
Thanks Dan @DanielV01
That’s all I needed, to have you guys be aware of it. Please do escalate this to your engineering department. Now the programmers got a whole year.
Thanks again for taking the time.
@raoulwatson I most certainly will make sure it is reported. I can't promise it will be fixed by next year, but I hope they will. But thank you for your insight.
I have no child credit coming yet TT keeps telling me I need to fill out 8812.
I have deleted the blank form but it keeps telling me there's an error saying that I have to fix it before filing.
EVERYONE filing a tax return this year will have to visit the CTC section of the program even if they are not claiming any dependents on the 2021 return because the program cannot KNOW who got a CTC advance last year.
This goes for the third stimulus payment as well ... EVERYONE will need to answer those RRC questions.
And with the changes to the EIC more taxpayers will be eligible for it this year ... it is important to visit this credit as well.
Failure to complete any of these sections will result in error messages when you get to the REVIEW tab and you cannot efile with those errors.
So everyone needs to complete all sections of the TT interview and not skip the deductions & credits section this year even if they have in the past.
What phone number did you call? The number on Intuit's site for customer service (800-446-8848) leads only to an automated service that emails me irrelevant information. I've not found link, chat, number, email or other resource to submit a bug in TurboTax Premier (desktop). Any help would be appreciated.
You are commenting on an old thread. Did you have a question we could assist with here? If you need to reach us directly, please use the information in the Help Article here.
I used the Help article to no avail. There appears to be no mechanism to submit a bug report or contact Intuit/TurboTax customer services. The customer service number [phone number removed]) does not seem to allow for interaction with a human being unless you have a ticket number and there is no way that I've found to obtain a ticket number. The automated system at [phone number removed] will send me an email (or text) with links to information that is not responsive or helpful. What I'd like to do is submit a ticket for a fix to a field (Box 16 of Form W-2) that currently is limited by its field properties to a number that does not exceed 9999999.99. Box 1 of Form W-2 does not have the same limitation even though the Box 1 and Box 16 amounts are usually the same exact number (i.e. federal wages and state wages).
