I had the same issue as well. I put in the activation code again and now it does not ask anymore. Not sure why that happened??
I have the CD Premier version. Working fine yesterday. This morning when I loaded it had an update and now after the update it wants the activation code again. I have used Turbo for many years and it just seems to be more problematic this year. And I don't like that they do the update but no longer tell you what the details are.
This is just horrible. I ran out of activation codes last year and they gave me a new set, but I use 2 computers and it becomes a problem for both. It's still broken this year. TT claims they are aware of it and working on it.
This Turbo Tax FAQ will provide the activation process.
We already activated the product. Turbo Tax loses the activation code upon updates. Not cool. Needs to be fixed. 5 times and you need a new activation code even if all on one computer.
Please read the issue. People that have activated and been using the product suddenly find out that they have to activate again after the product has applied some updates. I might also add, that in the past years you could find out details about what was included in an update but that it no longer the case.
Please contact TurboTax support to look at this issue further.
What is the TurboTax phone number?
I did that, but I have been unable to talk to anyone with technical knowledge of the issue. It is frustrating.
I am wondering if people that are having the "Activate again after Update" issue purchased directly from Intuit or downloaded from Amazon or something else. I went through Amazon and have the issue on both TT Business and TT Deluxe. If the issue is related to USB disk or flash drives I can not say.
I have been using TT (and Mac-in-tax before that) for more than 30 years, but the problems the last two years have been the worst. I have been a computer developer for 45 years and I would love to help resolve this issue for both TT and my own sanity.
I need to activate product with my activation code.
@3211948 Do you have the 16 digit License Code? Here are some links...

Not sure where you are stuck ... once you download and install the program open it then the program will ask for the code.

Just to add to my comment on last year's version. I purchased the download version from Amazon again this year.... installed, updated, activated and used. When TT rolled out another update, it required another activation using another one of my "5 licenses". The last two years it has used all of my activation codes just keeping the one PC running and I had to contact TT by phone to get a new set of codes. It is doing the same thing again this year. I am already on my 2nd activation on the same laptop. This is BS. If anyone at TT knows of the solution to this it would be great to post the answer. This customer of 30 years is very annoyed.
PS. If you are activating an Amazon download, the activation code can be found in your My Account > Digital Content and Devices > Digital Games and Software (or search for Software Download Library) ... find your order and it will have the activation code. One of the most obtuse procedures on Amazon...
@cdpalmer3 Don't let that happen again ...
Also be aware ... the configuration of your system must be the same everytime you activate the program ... some have said that having something plugged into the computer makes a difference. So if you had something plugged into one of the thumb drive ports when you initially installed the program or if you didn't then remove it.
@Critter-3 I would guess that the "stuff plugged into the computer" is the root cause, but it would be nice if that were acknowledged by TT is true. I may or may not have had a wireless mouse plugged in when TT decides it wants to update.
I tried the Network fixes last year without success. It looks like there may have been an update since I last read that, but ended up on the phone for over an hour until someone gave me a new set of activation codes. I get that TT wants to keep stuff secure, but this is just painfully ridiculous. If there is an issue that the configuration must be the same, it should be clearly stated. This has wasted hours of time for me alone.
FWIW, I have never seen this when just starting up TT. I don't think that I have ever seen a problem on a minor update. Only when a Major update requiring a restart of the program is required.... at least for me.
Mumble.... it occurs to me that there could be a port left open on the authentication server when the update begins and attempts to connect after the restart fail because it cant connect to an "active". I'll have to try waiting an hour next time
