so how do I get prior year information into my 2023 return (which I have not started yet). I am using H&B desktop turbotax. Have used it for years. Why do I always have to ask this same question? Can't you make it easier? even the basics......name, address, birthdate, etc..... The historical comparisons are useful.

When you start a New 2023 tax return using the 2023 TurboTax desktop editions, the program looks in the TurboTax Folder within the Documents directory for all tax year 2022 tax data files which have a file extension of .tax 2022. You are then presented with a list of the 2022 tax returns to transfer to the 2023 tax return.
See the following FAQ for instructions to transfer your 2022 information into your 2023 tax return. In the FAQ click the link for "Transferring from TurboTax Desktop for Windows, H&R Block, or TaxACT."
Transfer last year's return to TurboTax Desktop for Windows
This is the only question you have ever posted with this user name.
In the Window's Home & Business Desktop program when you start a new return you get 2 choices. To prepare an Individual Tax Return or to prepare W2s or 1099s to give to your employees and sub contractors.
Click the big blue button to Start a New Return or go up to the top black menu bar first item, File-New Tax Return.
Then on the next screen it asks What would you like to do?
If you get a screen with 2 choices, Pick or Check the one that says Start a New Individual Tax Return or says 2023 US Form 1040
Then the first thing it should do is find any 2022 returns and ask if you want to Transfer it. Or you can browse to where the .tax2022 file is saved. It should be in your Documents in a Turbo Tax folder.
Don't you get to this screen listing your 2022 returns?
I went through all the steps..it stated that the info had been transferred to my 2023 return…but when I started my 2023 return none of the info had been transferred! This has never happened to me before. I have been using turbotax for ever. This is the first time it has not transferred the data. Is this a glitch in the 23 software?
If TurboTax said your 2022 return had been transferred, try closing the program and re-opening it.
You should see your tax return listed, so that you can click on it to open it and continue your 2023 return.
I should have clarified that I’m using Turbo tax for Mac 2023 NOT Windows…could there be a glitch in the 23 software that has not been addressed yet?
