I am using the desktop version of TurboTax, not the online version. My question is whether I can use my account to file both mine and my daughter's tax returns. Since I am using the desktop version, when doing the e-filing, I would be asked to log into my account. Then, I would provide all the information needed and pay. I did this for myself in the past years. Now, this year, my daughter has to file her tax return. I have used TurboTax to prepare her tax return. I have not filed hers yet. But I would think, when going through the e-filing, I will be asked to log in to the INTUIT account. So, my question is, in this case, should I log into my account or ask her to create a new account? I know this seems to be a silly question because creating a new account should work. But I still want to find out whether I can just use my account to do that.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
When you were installing the 2023 TurboTax desktop software you had to log onto your TurboTax account to activate the license code. Once that was completed there is no need to log onto the account again. Nor do you need to create a TurboTax account for your daughter.
You can create, complete and file as many tax returns as needed with the desktop editions once the software license has been activated.
e-filed returns are limited to 5 for any one type. - ie 1040 if you didn't use desktop in 2022 but have a 2022 online tax file(s) _ one for you and 1 for your daughter they can be uploaded to your computer for data transfer.
to start a complete new return without file transfer, once Turbotax is open click on the blue link to create a new return
Looking at my notes I made when I efiled it looks like I had to log into an account at the end to pay the state efile fee since I wrote down my username and password. I suppose you can use your own account or create one for her. Let us know how it works out.
Yes, I did need to sign in to my intuit account when doing the e-filing. Today, I did my return first. So, I logged in and paid. After that, I continued working on my daughter's. Since there was no obvious prompt for me to log out of my account, it continued to work under my account. So, then, I e-filed my daughter's tax return and paid. Everything seemed to be fine. I guess the need to log in was really just for paying the fee for e-file and so it is ok to use my account to file my daughter's tax.)
