Why am I being charged deluxe

Depending on what your tax situation was last year, you might need to use new tax forms to claim the same deductions, credits, or forms of income. Some of the situations that are now in TurboTax Deluxe and TurboTax Live Deluxe, instead of in Free Edition, include:

  • Student loan interest deduction
  • Retirement savings contribution credit
  • Education credits
  • Child & dependent care credit

If none of this applies to you, you can use the clear and start over feature.

Note: In TurboTax Online, you can erase your return and start from scratch as long as you haven't submitted payment, deducted the TurboTax fee from your refund, or registered.

Please see the two TurboTax FAQs below for more information.

Why am I being charged deluxe

I never wanted the turbo tax live deluxe, i thought i was only being charged the one charge for 60$. Actually i originally thought it was 40$....but im not to worried about that. Why am I being charged an additional 80$ and is there anything that can be done about it. Ive been a customer for a long time and have never had a problem like this.

What are your actual charges by product?  The TurboTax Live Deluxe is $120 so what are the other charges?

You could have downgraded your online edition before paying the account fees or requesting the fees deducted from the federal tax refund.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for checking your fees - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/charges-and-fees/help/how-do-i-review-my-fees-in-turbotax-online/0...

@Froggled311 Since you added on to a very old thread we cannot see what software version you are posting from.    It is likely you upgraded while working on your return ---we cannot see what you used.   If you have not filed it yet you could see if you qualify to switch to Free File, or maybe still clear and start over in a less expensive version.

WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY?  I WANT THE FREE EDITION

The information that you can enter in Free Edition is pretty limited now.  Thanks to the new tax laws that began for 2018 returns, there are no more simple Form 1040EZ or 1040A's.  Everything goes on a Form 1040 that has three extra "schedules" with it, and if you need any of those schedules, you are not able to use the Free Edition.  Using the standard deduction instead of itemizing does NOT mean you will not need any of those schedules.https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/4511011-what-happened-to-the-1040a-and-1040ez   If you started in the Free Edition and entered any data that required any of those three schedules, you have to upgrade to a paid version.   The Free Edition cannot be used for self-employment income, investment income, rental income or a student loan interest deduction,

If you qualify to use it, there is another full-featured free version of the software:

Try Free File:

You qualify if your income was $39,000 or less, or $72,000 or less if active duty military, or if you qualify for Earned Income Credit

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1900583-what-is-turbotax-free-file-program

Note:  If you do not qualify to use Free File then you will have to upgrade to Deluxe or higher in the paid versions of the software.

Online Deluxe $40  State software $40

Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free

If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons:

Why am I being charged deluxe

Did you file a state return too?  $80 could be the $40 for Deluxe Federal and $40 for state.  On March 1 the fees did increase to $60 Deluxe federal and $50 for state.  Or if you just did Federal the Extra 40 could be the Pay with Refund Service charge.  So if you have a state it really can be 40+40+40=$120.

To have the fees deducted is an Extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge (45 in California).

Why am I being charged deluxe

Well, i did file both, but my invoice only states 2 fees. So i get what you are saying, but my whole thing is i did.not select the deluxe option. Only the 40 dollar one. I would have understood if it was just the one fee of 80 because of filing state and federal, but theres the additional 60 dollar fee as well. I dont know. If the IRS would just do their job and send me my refund which i filed for 13 weeks ago it wouldnt be a big deal. Thanks
