I am trying to import tax forms from my Ally bank accounts (1099-INT for checking, savings and CDs) but TurboTax is only showing one form for one of the accounts.
I was able to import all of these forms last year. Is this a bug? is it on Ally's side or TurboTax's?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
This appears to be an issue on Ally's bank side. You would want to double-check that they are an approved TurboTax 1099 import partner.
You can either reach out to Ally for assistance or either manually type in the remaining information.
Funny, Ally's support recommended I contact TurboTax because the problem is on their end. I told the representative I'd bet him TurboTax says the same about Ally.
I would hope Ally is an approved partner considering TurboTax has them listed, has me provide sign-in credentials, and shows a form available for import. Also, I was able to import the data for these accounts fine last year.
Anyway for anyone else who is having this problem, there is a bug and the companies are pointing fingers at each other.
I did end up just entering the data myself. Which honestly, was quicker than the import process for this situation even if it had worked. However, it is disappointing that touted features don't work.
So, I have moved past this problem. Now, I just want to let the companies know of the bug. Maybe the issue can be fixed for other's or for me next year.
Intuit should fix the bug instead of being passive aggressive about it for six years in a row
I am still having this problem this year and I am unhappy with both Turbo Tax and Ally Bank for not communicating and also not resolving the problem. This is an error-likely situation. Shame on both of them for not giving me good answers or at least apologizing for the confusion.
I am sorry to see you are having the same problem I did last year. I will update this thread about how my Ally accounts import when I do my taxes, once again, with TurboTax this year.
I pay good money for TurboTax Home & Business (especially now that intuit's licensing has cut off family from using my copy this year) but my situation does not demand that I need Home & Business. I am seeing other people recommend competing tax software services. And FYI, if you do not run a business or have complex investments, it is likely there are several other free and/or cheaper options if you have a basic W-2 employee filing.

I'm a fellow user and don't work for TurboTax, but I recall problems like this with Ally Bank importing in the past. I believe Ally Bank, at least in its PDFs, uses a combined type of 1099-INT that shows all of one's Forms 1099-INT in one file. I know a problem in past years with importing Ally 1099-INT is that Page 2 of the Ally form is a page of instructions, and their additional accounts resumed on Page 3. I remember folks in this forum have said that that instruction page is what likely caused the incomplete importing--I presume because the TurboTax importing programming didn't know how to handle that Page 2. So during the import when TurboTax reached the instruction page, it thought it was finished and didn't import the accounts on the pages after that. I have no firsthand knowledge if that is what is happening, but seems like a likely explanation.
Thanks for the info... Seriously, thank you, because it might get the problem fixed...
But us users are stuck trouble shooting for 2 to 6 years on import problems that we may or may not catch. All while, paying money to these companies, in part, for their ease of use and claimed interconnectivity.
How many people, blindly filed based on 1 account's 1099, not aware of other accounts? It happens. I have elderly relatives; they get mixed up if you give them authoritative information. I caught the discrepancy. Others may not especially when the software claims to import your forms.
So last year, TiffanyL "Intuit Alumni", said to make sure Ally was an approved partner.... Anyone who is reading this thread and cares knows Ally must be an approved partner because TurboTax lists Ally, logs-into Ally, and downloads Ally's forms.
Inuit Alumni? but you don't know who is an approved partner? WTF?
Ally must be an "approved" Intuit TurboTax partner. They list them, get our credentials to login and download the forms?!
Ok so, Ally isn't formatting the documents right? OK, Intuit, you're the big boy, lean on them and tell them to fix it. Or adapt your ingestion to account for Ally's format!
February 2024 ... still not fixed (no clue if this is TurboTax or Ally's issue - but it's frustrating nonetheless)
Another user suggested, If you have a single broker for multiple accounts, when selecting to add another account for the same broker: Clear cache/cookies and then search for your broker via the search bar rather than clicking the broker icon.
Some banks, when you sign in, present you with a list of investments that you can check off which ones to import. If Ally doesn't offer this and only imports one 1099-INT, then stops, you could try the 'clear cache/cookies' and see if a second import can be done, etc. You may have to rename it, so it doesn't overwrite the previously imported one.
There is also an option to upload a PDF copy of your form.
Even if you have multiple 1099-INT's, you only need to enter the Bank Name and Amount, so it's not an overly time-consuming process.
Here's more details on How to Enter 1099-INT.
Confirmed, I have the same issue this year too.
You have to import from Apex clearing, NOT Ally Financial.
We are talking about 1099-int from Ally savings checking and CDs. These forms come from Ally. We are not talking about an investment brokerage account held at Ally. Those forms do come from Apex Clearing.
For what is worth my 1099s from Apex Clearing imported fine but that isn't what this thread is about.
Contact Ally Bank for your 1099-INT statements if you cannot locate them in an online application and they do not import. If you can access your statements you can total the interest and add it to your return without Form 1099-INT, manually without import.
Please update if you need further assistance.
