Software glitch?

Hi,

In the process of amending my 2017 tax return, I realized that I was not receiving EIC for which I am eligible. Every time I attempted to get the credit, the software program would respond with a message which basically said that I had earned over the amount that would qualify me for EIC. The software was using the incorrect year to qualify me for that credit. It was using the income/wages of 2016 (prior year ?) vs the year being amended 2017. Income of 2016 was 3x higher than 2017. Can I fix that glitch? Can it be fixed? Thanks for the help in advance!

Software glitch?

You are using the 2017 program, right?  And starting with the original .tax2017 file?  Can you post a screen shot of the message or page?  Are you using the full 2017 program or the special downloaded amend program?  You might need to update the program.   Are you saying it's using the wrong EIC table amounts (see below) or it's using your 2016 income to disqualify you?

 

2017 Earned Income and Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) must each be less than:
$48,340 ($53,930 married filing jointly) with three or more qualifying children
$45,007 ($50,597 married filing jointly) with two qualifying children
$39,617 ($45,207 married filing jointly) with one qualifying children
$15,010 ($20,600 married filing jointly) with no qualifying children

I hope this screen pic helps to answer your questions. The amount used by the software pgm is from 2016. The Earned Income for 2017 is below the required max of $45,000. I do not know why the change in years and amounts. Repeatedly, I have gone over the EI for 2017 (Delete, edit) and the end outcome is the same: Denial due to high income. I would reach out to Intuit TurboTax IT dept., but I couldn't find a "Contact Us" tab with a Phone  number or an e-mail address. Thanks again for your help.
