All I have is a simple refi of a mortgage under 750K and I keep getting the error. I called and they told me it was being investigating.
Does it make a difference using the online version rather than a desktop software?
I totally hear you. I filed finally with TaxAct and no issues. But for everyone here, some interesting articles:
This is an interesting dilemma and at the end of it all, you, me and everyone ends up being misused.
First off, once again I'll repeat myself and say, Intuit and TT, you lobbied for it, you were paid by all these people here, fix this issue ASAP.
Secondly, we need a better solution in the long term.
I'm also receiving this error. Just a simple refinance under $500k. It's now Feb. 21st and I've been waiting to finish since the 10th.
Thank you for this! I double check my worksheet and realized there was an error. When I fixed it, it let me file. I'm guessing the correction removed the necessity for the worksheet rather than corrected the worksheet error. Nevertheless, thank you!
Hi, So you were able to file? What exactly did you fix, and where did you fix it? The only field available to edit is my name. Thank you!
What was your work around? Trying to figure out how to edit to file.
Hi! I went into the mortgage interest form and double checked the data fields. One one wrong (a date). I corrected it and the error went away.
The TT live Tax expert says if you try to manually edit or correct the you return, it will take the product out of warranty. Calculations may be off on other parts of your return. I found My schedule A calculated correctly but it was not transmitting the calculation to my return. Because I had multiple 1098 from my 3 purchases and 2 sales the average principle balance was over the 750k. Therefore I can not write off all the interest I paid. However, my return is deducting all the interest. There’s got to be easy program fix for this IMO. I am very surprised TT wasn’t aware of this before the tax season.
Thanks, I just got off the phone with TT and they said to delete the 1098 and try to re-enter. Going to try that and see if it sticks.
Hey @jwest21 ,
Let me know if that works. I tried deleting both my 1098s and then re-entering them and it didn't work.
I also tried doing a brand new very simple tax scenario with no complications, except for having two 1098s for 2021, and it fails.
I too am getting the same error. I thought it couldn't hurt to try TT support myself. Just got off the phone with an agent. She said there is an active investigation but could not give me a time table for its resolution.
Does anyone actually understand what the error means? My worksheet is completely filled out. Can they just not ensure its accuracy? I'm very confused.
First off thanks for calling and raising it with them. I hope you got a CASE ID, if not call back and ask them to attach your CASE ID to that "active investigation".
Everyone has guesses, but an educated guess is exactly what you said. TT cannot ensure accuracy as there are several scenarios of two or more 1098s and how they get handled at Federal and State level. Each scenario can easily be handled with manual calculation using IRS publication, so IRS has accounted for all of them and even give you choice to choose an average of first and last method OR Interest paid divided by interest rate methods.
So the issue is that TT needs to add that logic into their software. QA and test it and then implement that solution.
In the meanwhile, please do post and share this thread on Twitter while tagging TT / Intuit and asking them to please pay attention to it. Similarly also share this thread on LinkedIn and hashtag Intuit on it.
same issue. They have no idea when it will be fixed. Seems that this should have been disclosed prior to wasting hours entering information.
NO DICE -SAME ERROR MESSAGE. I HAD TURBOTAX SEND ME THE LINK FOR A REFUND.
