2021 Individual 1040 Income Tax Return

I am trying to access it from "Documents" in my computer using WORD but it keeps telling me that the this document is unreadable. My question is, does Turbotax make the tax documents unreadable for my security? How do I access it? The IRS has questions about it.

Or...did you use online software?

  You have to access your own account and/or  print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.

Start a 2022 return online and enter some personal information  so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax?  If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

The copy of your tax return is a PDF file, not a word doc.  Most computers or mobile devices can open a pdf file.   If you double click on the pdf file it should open in your pdf reader program like Adobe.  

Or do you have the data file ending in .tax2021?  You need to have the Turbo Tax 2021 program installed to open the .tax2021 file.

If you can't get the side menus to open up to access the prior year..... You need to start entering some basic Personal Info in 2022 for the side menu to open up. Just continue a little ways into 2022. I had to go though about 12 screens.

If you used the Desktop CD/Download program then the only copy is on your computer and not saved or stored online. So you need to make and keep your own backups.
