FLORIDA DOESN'T HAVE A STATE INCOME TAX TO FILE ... ONLY AN TANGIBLE TAX YOU MUST MAIL.
You should have skipped the FL tax unless you own rental property in FL or a FL based business.
Florida has a tangible personal property tax form that is used in a Florida-located business or rental property and is filed with the county property appraiser by April 1st.
If you do need to file a Form DR-405, nothing will print (except an instruction sheet) unless assets were transferred or you manually entered assets in the DR-405 worksheet.
If you do not have tangible personal property to report, choose Skip State in the State Taxes section.
If you proceeded past the warning screens, try deleting the Florida return --> https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1900608
thanks Critter but i did not select FL for my state.
in my TTD folder there are 4 files 1040_22, 1099_22, APP_22 and ini_22. there are not state files.
i also never got the screen you attached.
Can you take a screen shot of where it's trying to charge you $40 for state? Or where you have 2 states listed. Do you have a blue menu bar going across the top with the tabs Personal, Federal, State, Review File OR a black menu bar down the left side?
yes, i am using the desktop and not the online.
first insert below, when i select Indiana this is where the next screen shows both IN and FL again and i select FL to remove. then to procede with IN it sends me to account for billing
also in second insert you can see there is no file for any state tax return
my mistake, state taxes are within the 1040 file
still when i open my 1040 file there is no state listed when selecting REVIEW, it only shows federal.
and when i click on STATE TAXES i get this:
indicates the 2 states, then I get this:
from there it takes me to selecting a state and then to account billing
I use the Desktop program and never saw a screen like that. I downloaded my state. OHHHHHH, What version do you have? Basic does not come with a state download. And Deluxe comes 2 ways, Deluxe with one state and Deluxe without a state. Did you buy the wrong Deluxe download? If you are in Florida maybe you bought Deluxe without a state. Double check your receipt or invoice. It should say Federal + Efile + State or it won't say State.
@VolvoGirl @Jvlsrq1 Yes----did you buy the version of Basic or Deluxe that did not include state software? If you bought it from a retailer they sell it with or without state software included. Maybe you bought the one that did not include a state program at all, which is what has led to all of this confusion. Where did you buy the software?
well theres a sucker born every minute and i guess I was the sucker when I bought my Deluxe from Costco in FL.
the cover has Federal return and Federal efile so that is the issue
so i got ripped off paying what i did from Costco and not getting state which i could have got in another store with state for same price (instead of paying another $40 to get 1 state)
I saw the TurboTax deluxe and assumed it included state. nice trick Intuit and Costco. In effect i paid over $80 for something that should have cost $40 or less and had free state form.
I get it that Deluxe is related to tax return complexity and not what forms are included. i guess this is the first time ive seen it w/o state included. at least this offers a $10 credit for in-product add-ons which i will again assume would apply to a state return. time will tell.
now costco wont take it back (opened) and I will be very leery of Intuit products in future.
Thanks for all the help and glad this was resolved.
Since FL doesn't have a state income tax return to do it makes perfect sense for the Costco in FL to sell programs without the state program included for a lesser price than the one with a state program.
If you do need a state program then you have to buy the version with a state program.
bought TTD from costco last year in FL and it had state.
no that ive paid for IN state forms it said it downloaded but now its not showing.
guess i will get out of TTD and restart
A restart of TTD got my IN state forms downloaded
Lesson learned and thanks to this board for help.
The very same thing happened to me. What Turbo Tax is saying when they are giving you one free state return means that they will PREPARE your state return for free using one state, but you still have to pay to e-file it. That is very deceiving on the part of Turbo Tax. I filed two returns for the same state and had to pay for both to be e-filed. The reason they prepare one state for free is because some states do not require filing a state income tax return at all. So it appears that TT is doing all of us, who have to file a state return, a favor. I disagree and TT should be more clear in their advertising.
