2024 TurboTax Premier (Desktop) Step -by-step entry skips the SSA-1099.

During the step by step entry process, the SSA-1099 entry is skipped entirely.

This very clearly is a software defect.

Pressing on the [update] selection for SSA-1099 does nothing.

Yes I understand that switching to the "Form" mode allows manual entry of the SSA figures, but that is a "work-around" and not a fix of the software defect itself.

That doesn't say much about the Intuit software Verification and Validation testing... and makes me wonder what other defect(s) lies dormant in this TurboTax software I paid more than $100 for.

Windows OS only -

Save your tax return.  Close the TurboTax program

Right click on the TurboTax icon

Click on Run as administrator

Start the TurboTax program.  See if the problem persists

Thanks for your input, I'll try that.

But is is another work-around... not a fix.

The software defect needs to be fixed once and for all; it is a very basic function of the Step-by-Step entry process and not a tolerable situation for a company that prides itself in its "error-free" products.

Furthermore, for individual not paying a great deal of attention and fully trusting this Step-by-step method, they may fail to report SSA 1099 entirely.

I look forward to a prompt software update to address this.

I encounter the same exact problem as the original message listed. And, I just try the "Run as Administrator" workaround, it doesn't  work. Same behavior! Need a fix asap!! Incompleteness and quality issues on 2024 version?! Thank you.

I am having the exact same issue using TurboTax 2024 Premier Edition on a Mac. Using EasyForm and selecting the UPDATE button for Social Security does absolutely nothing.

I have not yet tried deleting the Soc Sec form yet, and will try it tomorrow, but I agree that if this does work then it is just a work-around and should be fixed. I beleive Intuit should be offering an 'official' response acknowledging ng the bug and advising us all that they recognize the issue and give us an estimated date as to when it will be corrected.

Other users who experienced this issue found that the following workarounds resolved it:

 - If you transferred 2023 Social Security information to your 2024 return, try deleting the Social Security form that transferred over. Look for Social Sec in the list of Forms in Forms Mode, open it and click on Delete Form at the bottom.

- If you have a supporting details entry for Box 5 of Line A. I had listed the 2 different payment amounts from sums on the details.  I removed the supporting details sheet and went back to the Step by Step and the interview process went forward as normal.

I have been able to enter Social Security in step-by-step on my Mac where I don't have a prior year transfer with Social Security.

I have reported the issue for further investigation.

Thanks. I can confirm that I did in fact import SS payments from 2023  and after followng the advise to delete the Social Security form (after going to the Forms view), it DID resolve the issue and I was able to complete the tax forms successfully. I was pleased that doing this did NOT delete the information that was imported from 2023 (which I assumed would happen).

For anyone else still experiencing this issue (unable to enter Social Security payments on a Mac device, and did not try one of the workarounds suggested):

In order for us to troubleshoot this issue, you can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions for TurboTax Desktop for Mac users:

  1. From the black bar at the top of your screen, select Help
  2. Click Send Tax File to TurboTax Agent
  3. Click Send on the message that pops up
  4. TurboTax will create a "sanitized" copy of your return information with no personal info
  5. Post the 7-digit token number here in this thread

@Allan P thank you for the update.

Ridiculous! Entering token # as text is impossible. It is recognized as a phone number and is sanitized!

After further looking into your issue, along with your token number, I am unable to reproduce this problem using my MAC. It is not skipped when I walk through. I am able to enter the SSA-1099 in MAC in Easy Step and it carries through and I can see the form in forms mode and it properly reports on the form 1040.

Which MAC OS are you using?

2024 TurboTax Premier (Desktop) Step -by-step entry skips the SSA-1099.

Running [Sonoma] macOS 14.1.2 (23B92); cannot install Sequoia due to other software dependencies/incompatibilities. Today Turbotax forced update to TurboTax v2024.r20.026. Experiencing same behavior.

I've attached "Screen Capture 1" similar to yours except TurboTax prefilled values from last year. Clicking "Update" brings me to "Screen Capture 2" then clicking "Continue" returns me to the first screen.

Should I try entering SSA-1099s via Forms mode or are you interested in debugging further?Screen Capture 1.jpgScreen Capture 2.jpg

Thanks in advance.

Some ideas……

Are you using the Desktop program?  Some people are having trouble entering into box 5.  See if this helps.

Are you running the TurboTax application as an Administrator?  If not -

Save the tax return.

Close the TurboTax program

Right click on the TurboTax icon on your computer screen

Click on Run as Administrator

Start the TurboTax program and see if the problem persists

One person said......

Did that. Same thing happened. But then... I accidentally double-clicked the box. And it opened up a small windows that let me fix it. Then the same thing happened with the Part B premium box. Double-clicking fixed that.

If you can't enter your Social Security in the boxes try deleting the form that transferred over from 2023.
