2024 tax return

Hello, my tax return keeps getting sent back saying that I need to add my wife’s 2023 1040 the only issue is she hasn’t worked in 3 years… Every time I contact the irs it gets me nowhere. Has anyone else experienced this and can help? Also I am filing Jointly.

If you filed a joint return for 2023 you use the same AGI for each of you even if she had no income.  


Try entering 0 for the AGI. The IRS might have processed your return later so the AGI didn't get entered in time.  Especially if you mailed it.  That works for most people. See,

If you can’t get it to efile you will have to print and mail it.

Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

If you filed a joint return for 2023 then your spouse and you have exactly the same AGI---the amount on line 11 of your 2023 Form 1040.
