@ lainekw25 wrote:  "I paid and filed my return for 2022 late and I don’t see it or received it"   Here's how to find your past 2022 return if previously prepared in Online TurboTax.   This answer assumes your previous returns were prepared in Online TurboTax.   Any return prepared in desktop TurboTax will not be in an Online account.  Here's how one would normally find past-year online returns and how to troubleshoot for multiple accounts (User IDs) if necessary.  Many people end up with more than 1 account.  The pathway to download the PDF or tax data file depends on whether or not you have started an online 2025 return.  I provide both scenarios below, so choose which one is appropriate for your situation.   If you have not yet started a 2025 online return: Sign in to your account.   What you see next depends on whether or not you have already started a 2025 return in that account.   If your left column menu is minimal, and does not have a Tax Home tab displayed, that would imply you have not started preparing a 2025 return in that account.  If you haven't yet started a return, it will start asking you some questions.  Answer those preliminary questions on a few screens (you don't actually have to prepare a return), and then when you are far enough into the process, the left menu column will change, and you'll then see a Tax Home option in the left menu column.  Do not click the Documents tab.  Instead, click on Tax Home.  Then on the Tax Home screen, scroll way down to the bottom to "Your Tax Returns & Documents".  Expand that section and choose the past year you want.   If your past returns are not shown there, then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one.  I'll tell you below how to troubleshoot.   If you have already started a 2025 online return: Log in, and if you've already started a 2025 return in that account, then it may already open at the Tax Home.  If not, click the Tax Home tab in the left column menu.  Do not use the Documents tab.  At the Tax Home scroll down and expand "Your Tax Returns & Documents."   If the past returns are not there, see the steps below.   If you do all that and can't find the past return, here's how to look for multiple accounts: You can have up to 5 accounts that use the same email address for notification purposes.  A User ID may be an email address, but it doesn't have to be.  It might be only part of an email address, or it can be anything at all.   To get a list of your User IDs, reset password, and recover account access, etc., you can use the tool at the link below.  When using the Account Recovery tool, try using your phone number first if you can still access it.   After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access. NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop.  Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below.  You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session. https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery If still no luck after running that on your phone number you can still access and email address(es) that you can access,  here's another method:          Go back to the tool again, but this time leave the data field blank, scroll down a bit, then choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by other parameters.

When you receive a 1099-NEC for work done without a formal business, TurboTax treats this as self-employment income. In TurboTax Online, to handle this: 1. Enter the 1099-NEC income in the self-employment or Schedule C section under Federal > Income. 2. When prompted for business information, you can use your name and describe the work simply, such as "Labor union work" or "Independent contractor". 3. You don't need a formal business to file this income. 4. Follow the prompts to enter any expenses if you have them; otherwise, proceed without. This process lets you report your income correctly for self-employment tax purposes without having an official business setup.

Yes, in TurboTax, enter the name that matches your most up-to-date Social Security card. You can usually file your tax return without rejection using your new name (provided you've updated your name with the Social Security Administration), even if the W-2 shows your old name. The IRS uses your Social Security Number (SSN) as the primary identifier.   You should let your payroll department know to update your legal name going forward.

You should be able to enter your direct contributions made to your HSA using TurboTax Online.  I just tested this using TurboTax Deluxe and the Firefox browser and the input field was there and accessible.  It comes up after entering any Form 1099-SA distributions and before you enter the details for your HDHP coverage for the year.     If you are using a different browser, please try it in Firefox or be sure that you have cleared the cache and cookies for your browser.

If on a MAC...reboot too. _____________________   Still a no go? For Windows computers, try downloading and installing the Manual Update.  This update takes longer than normal to install...so be really patient.  A couple pop-up windows will be presented for you to  Allow/Accept as it proceeds. They will be drafted based on the date you selected right before e-file. If you didn't choose a date, then it could happen within a few days or a little longer after acceptance.

I've already filed my federal and new york state return when I received a schedule k-1 form 1065 with separate K-1's for several states including NY. There's no issue with the amended federal section. However, all of the additional K-1 federal revenue was passed to NY. The income on the NY K-1 is approx 1/10th of the federal. I haven't been able to figure out how to adjust the New York return. I've done several searches and one says on the NY return turbotax will ask if all of your income was from NY sources but there isn't a section where it asks that question. I'm using desktop premiere.

To enter your 2025 Form 1099-NEC income in TurboTax Online, follow these steps: 1. Go to the Federal section, then select Income. 2. Look for the 1099-NEC option under the income types. It may be listed as Income from Form 1099-NEC or under the 1099-MISC and Other Common Income section. 3. Select Start or Update next to this option. 4. Follow the onscreen instructions to enter your 1099-NEC information exactly as it appears on the form. If you don't see the 1099-NEC option, make sure you are in the correct tax year (2025) and check under the income sections or search for "1099-NEC" in the search bar within TurboTax. You can also enter your 1099-NEC income as part of self-employment income if applicable, which then allows you to report business expenses to reduce taxable income.

It depends. Whether you need to file a tax return depends on your total gross income, filing status, age, and other factors. If you earned less than $600 and don't have a 1099-NEC, you might still need to file if your gross income exceeds the IRS filing thresholds for your filing status and age. However, if your income is below those thresholds and you have no other filing requirements (like self-employment earnings of $400 or more), you likely don't need to file. Keep in mind, even if you aren't required to file, you might want to file a return to claim a refund of any withheld taxes. The minimum filing thresholds vary; for example, for a single filer under 65, the threshold is typically around $15,750 in gross income for 2025. Your exact filing requirement depends on your full financial situation.

@pmedwards7 wrote: Can I get a copy of my 2025 TurboTax e-filing instructions? It was not included in my 2025 download as in 2023 and 2024. Have you already efiled?  There is a way you can view/print/download a choice of PDFs, and you should find the Filing Instructions in one of them..  To get the larger PDF with the worksheets you have to open your return back up and go to the Print Center as I'll explain in detail below.   NOTE:  When you open your return back up, do not make any changes in it if it has already been filed.  If you later have to amend the return, it has to start off exactly as it was when it was originally filed.   Log in and at the Tax Home or in the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents" for 2025, look for a link "Add a State." Click on "Add a State."  (you don't really add one.  That's just to open your return back up.) After the return interview is open, click in the left menu column on the tab TAX TOOLS, then PRINT CENTER. Then choose "Print, save, view this year's return." The next screen should ask what you want in your PDF:  Federal. state, or both (I always save both--just in case) and offer some options:  "Just my tax returns", or "include government worksheets (optional)", or "include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional.)"  The latter has the most pages. NOTE:  Remember all PDF tax documents and tax data files are very sensitive files, since they contain your personal ID info, financial data, and possibly bank account numbers, etc.  Be sure to store them safely and securely to guard against computer theft, hacking, etc.

The federal and California e-filed returns are accepted by completely different agencies.  It is typical to receive refunds at different times.     To double check on your federal reject, log in to your TurboTax account.  You'll see the status of your return. If your return is rejected, you can fix it immediately. TurboTax will usually provide a Fix it now button and an error code explaining what went wrong, such as a misspelled name or an incorrect Social Security number. You can make the necessary changes and then attempt to e-file the return again at no extra cost.

I was revisiting the section for my two rental properties. When I got to the asset summary for a duplex I purchased in 2025, it shows this (photo below). Is it me, or is it listing the duplex building twice on there -- the first and last entries on this summary? I scrolled through 'editing' them and they have almost identical information, so the numbers correspond to the purchase of the property. The one at the end doesn't include the cost of the home inspection, which is why the numbers are different. But isn't this wrong? I only entered information once. Why did it generate two separate asset entries?    I think I need to delete one of these "assets", correct?  Please, help!!

Thanks for getting back.   When I get to the NY Income Allocation screen, it shows my federal amounts for Interest, Dividends, and Cap Gains, but shows my Federal Rentals, Royalties, and Partnership number as $0 -- even though my BXPE K-1 1065 has $619 in Line 1 Ordinary Business Income.  So, to me, it looks like there is no amount to allocate a NY portion to.   I do have carryover Line 1 losses from prior years on other Private Equity investments in a QOZ, so maybe Turbo Tax is using that to offset my federal amount?   If I put $619 in the NY portion, it does say I owe $44 in tax, but I'm not sure that's correct.   To check my logic, I went and recreated everything in H&R Block online.  Their NY state tax interview works differently, and actually walks me through my passive income form by form.  When I do that, I allocate the $619 for NY from my BXPE form and then when I get to my other one (CIM), it shows a ~$7000 Federal business loss for 2025, with the NY portion 0.  It too sees to be using this to offset my federal amount and shows my NY tax at 0.
