If you are a non-married couple who live together with your child, then only one of you can claim the child(ren) and the one not claiming the child does not enter anything at all on their tax return about the child.   The “sharing” of child-related credits you may have heard about is only possible between divorced or never married parents who live apart and share custody and who have a written agreement to share the credits.    The child’s SSN can only be entered on one tax return.   Any other return with the child’s SSN on it will be rejected.   If you are a family, then work out how to share the refund between yourselves.           Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)     See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return -   CURRENT YEAR https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-federal-tax-return-current-year/L7eS6o1qh_US_en_US?uid=lfunevhk   Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.     You can watch for information here: https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return

FLSA OT PR in Box 14 of your W-2 stands for "Fair Labor Standards Act Overtime Premium". This represents the extra "half" portion of your time-and-a-half pay (the 0.5x premium) for overtime hours worked, not your total overtime pay. This informational amount is used to claim the No Tax on Overtime deduction.   In the Category box select Overtime.

Your initial tax liability will be calculated on line 16 of Form 1040. If you have any additional taxes due, this will carry over from Schedule 2 to line 17 with your total tax liability reported on line 18. Tax credits reduce this tax liability dollar-for-dollar. For example, if you have a dependent that qualifies for the Child Tax Credit, you will see a credit of $2,200 (tax year 2025) on line 19 reducing the amount calculated. If you qualify for other tax credits from Schedule 3, like the energy credit, they will be reported on line 20, further reducing your tax liability. These tax credits can reduce your tax liability to 0, but cannot add to your refund. Your final calculated tax liability will be reported on line 24.   Your final tax liability is not the same thing as an amount due. The tax return reconciles this amount with any payments already received through regular withholding or estimated tax payments. Those amounts are reported on lines 25 & 26. If you are eligible for refundable tax credits, such as Earned Income Credit, those amounts will be reported on lines 27-31. Refundable credits can increase your tax refund if your liability on line 24 was already 0.   If the total amount of your payments exceed your tax liability, you will have a refund on line 34. If your tax liability exceeds your payments, you will have a balance due on line 37.    If you have a tax liability that would allow an offset from the tax credit on Form 5695, you would see the amount on lines 16 & 18. Review your return based on the information above to determine if your amounts correspond to the tax calculations and credits mentioned.   Form 1040   @user17723141501

You'll need to go back through the K-1 income interview questions from the beginning and check the box that says "I have values in other boxes (this is uncommon)." From there, it gives you the option to check which boxes you have data to input.   If you're looking at the K-1 worksheet, you'll need to select Step-by-Step in the upper right to get out of Forms mode, and then select Income, to get back to where you initially entered the K-1.    All of the K-1 data should be input in step-by-step mode, and the questions should be answered in detail, for correct calculations.

I think that VolvoGirl might be concerned that increasing the amount distributed would generally increase your taxable income, so you would have to factor that in when determining the amount that you choose to have distributed and withheld for taxes.  However, if your distribution is larger than your RMD, even though you allocate all of the distribution to tax withholding you could still substitute other funds to perform a rollover of the amount in excess of the RMD (provided that the rollover would not be in violation of the limitation that you are permitted to roll over one distribution in a 12-month period).

I'm a new member because after 35+ years of using TT this is my first transmit rejecction.  So as of 2/28/26 TT Desktop version QMID for I7Q6 issue is still not resolved. My returns were "Rejected " with instructions that stated the correction would be done and to return on or after 3/6/26 to fix and resubmit   Read alot of different forums this has been an issue since January unbelievable and disappointing.

Do you have a "kiddie tax" situation?   Does your child have interest income?  Is that why you are asking about your own return? https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/small-business-processes/2021-kiddie-tax/L4UfEmyxW_US_en_US      Or did your dependent child have income from an after school or summer job, etc.?     MY DEPENDENT HAD A JOB If your dependent has a W-2 for his after-school job, summer job, etc. you do not include the information on your own return. You can still claim your child as a dependent on your own return.  He/she can file his own return for a refund of some of his withheld wages from boxes 2 or 17 (he won’t get back anything for Social Security or Medicare), but MUST indicate on it that he can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.  (Supervise this closely or prepare it for him!) If your dependent’s earnings were over $400 and were reported on a 1099Misc or 1099NEC then he must file a return and pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.     You might also want to use free software from the IRS Free File versions: https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/

@radhay    Historically, for over at least the last 18 years, Fidelity NetBenefits has never provided direct imports of 1099-R forms into the TTX software.  I've always had to enter them manually.   Maybe they wanted to start providing the 1099-R forms as imports this year....but haven't actually programmed their computers properly to do it yet.   I have two 1099-R forms from them this year....I just entered them Manually.   (No, I tried and couldn't import from them either, but I wasn't really expecting to be able to do so)

What is it doing that it is not working?  Is it giving you an error message or reason you cannot claim it or what exactly is happening?
You don't need to enter information from the voided 1095-A. This just means that the original was issued in error.

Hi, I see this problem is not unique to me. My TurboTax Home and Business is not filling out Form 5695 correctly. I followed instructions on deleting it to start again and get the same result over and over. From what I see there are no checks in Boxes 21a or 21b even though they should be checked 'yes' based on the information I provided. Can you help?
