In the state section, try to delete the California return and start it again. Often, a fresh state form resolves the loop.   @cjuhlman

The TurboTax Free online edition is for very simple tax returns that do not require any other form or schedule other than the Form 1040.  If your tax data requires entry on any other form or schedule then you must upgrade to the Deluxe edition or higher.   If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over with a lower priced edition. Click on Switch Products on the lower left side of the program screen while working on the 2025 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over   Go to this TurboTax website for the Free online edition - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/free-edition.jsp   Please Note - TurboTax Online: Important Details about Filing Form 1040 Returns with Limited Credits A Form 1040 return with limited credits is one that's filed using IRS Form 1040 only (with the exception of the specific covered situations described below). Good news and bad news. Good news, your carryover is still valid and allowed. There have been big changes to the credit allowed while you were gone. Bad news, it is currently only available in the desktop version and requires a back door method to get the K-47 you need. Good news, it is easy to switch and your information stays intact so you can pick up where you left off. See Switching from TTO to TTD. To finish up: Once you have your .tax file downloaded and the program downloaded, open your return. You will see Forms on the top right. Select Forms You will now see all your forms on the left side. Above them is Open Form Click on Open Form Pop-up box, click the + beside Kansas Locate Schedule K-47 and click it Then the blue Open Form box Your carryover goes in line 3. Fill in any pink boxes Go back to step by step - top right Finish return and file

So for context: In February 2024 I started a new job in DC, but I lived in Maryland. I worked remotely from MD until April of that year, when I moved to DC. I was at this job until April of 2025.   It looks like I never changed my address in the HR system, because my W-2 for 2025 lists me as paying taxes to Maryland, even though I lived in DC for the entirety of 2025.   So, I'm wondering how to handle this when I file. Do I file a nonresident tax return for Maryland?
The calculations for Line 29h on Form 5695 and the Energy Credit total are working today, after updating.   @PropertyManager

Most rejections are for AGI; AGI is only needed for e-filing and e-filing is permanently closed for 2024 returns.  The only way to file a 2024 return now is by mail.  You need to print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it.     When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
At the end when ready to submit I am being charged a fee but would like to switch to the free version.

Why do you need Home & Buisness?  All the Desktop  programs have the same forms so you can use a lower version like Deluxe for all returns.   You just get more  help in the higher versions.  And the Desktop program can do unlimited returns and efile 5 for free.   Here's how to activate a different version. There is a way to have 2 licenses. You don't need to install the second version just enter the License Code. Under Help - Switch Product - Activate new product. Don't know what that will do or what benefit you will get. It won't allow you to efile more than 5 or get a different free state program download. You should try to efile the most complicated ones first. Maybe a simple one can use the Online Free Edition.

Merci

Latest update did not correct this (3/5/2026).  The problem showed up after entering all the e-file questions, saving a PDF for the return and then saving this return file.  Closing Turbotax desktop and then reopening the file. I finally got it corrected by deleting the 1099-Rs and then adding them back in a different order.

Your son will take your basis and assume your accumulated depreciation.   You will likely also need to file a Form 709 for the gift (a form which TurboTax does not support).

Just wanted to post my evaluation of this issue and make a suggestion I hope TurboTax will consider.   When completing entry information for the Federal return one completes forms such as Form 1099, W-2, etc. That form can be viewed in TurboTax and the related data transfers to the proper place in the Federal Return as nessary.  Some of the data on the form also transfers to the State Return but the actual completed form does not transfer.  Oklahoma Form 511 line 21 specificaly states the form 1099, W-2 etc. be enclosed with the Form 511 but it is not included and e-filed to the Oklahoma Tax Commission thus the e-file generated doesn't provide what is required by the Oklahoma Tax Commission.   Am I upset?    NO I'M NOT...  I have used Turbo Tax for over 30 Years and will continue.   I offer these thoughts in hope that TurboTax can visit with the Oklahoma Tax Commission and can just transfer from the Federal side of TurboTax the 1099, W-2, and etc forms to the Oklahoma State side of TurboTax to be included in the e-file process so the Oklahoma Tax Commission can receive what they require.   Thanks to all who have commented and for the input and suggestions.  I would hope to get a response from TurboTax here as that response I would mark as the best answer.   THX again all...........
