It depends. If she does not meet the filing requirements for Minnesota (MN) she is not required to file as a nonresident. MN Filing Requirements $14,575 - Single  If her income is below the filing requirement she could file MN for a full refund. She is not required to do that. Who must file an Illinois tax return?  If you were an Illinois resident, you must file Form IL-1040 if you were required to file a federal income tax return, or you were not required to file a federal income tax return, but your Illinois base income from Line 9 is greater than your Illinois exemption allowance of $2,775 for 2024. @ChicagoJ

Hi @VolvoGirl , I have confirmed that I over-paid. I changed employers.  I want to make sure that this extra amount is being deducted from my taxes. Where within TurboTax can I see if it is deducting this amount? All references online point to looking at a specific form, but that form isn't available within TurboTax. At this point, I don't know if I'm overpaying. There isn't a section in the deductions area that shows this nor do any of the summaries reference this deduction.    Thank you for your help!

To automatically upload your business expenses to TurboTax, you can use the TurboTax Expense Monitor. Here’s how you can do it: Connect Your Financial Accounts: Link your bank accounts and credit cards to TurboTax. This allows TurboTax to import your transactions directly. Categorize Transactions: Once your transactions are imported, you can categorize them as business, personal, or split expenses. Import to TurboTax: At tax time, you can import these categorized expenses into your TurboTax return. You can get started with the TurboTax Expense Monitor here.   Important points: You can use the TurboTax Expense Monitor at the end of the year to import your business expenses. However, it's designed to be most effective when used throughout the year.  By regularly connecting your financial accounts and categorizing transactions, you ensure that all expenses are accurately tracked and categorized, which can save you time and reduce errors at tax time1. If you  use it only at the end of the year, make sure to review and categorize all your transactions carefully before importing them into TurboTax.

Because the over-reported dividends relate to an audit of the partnership for a prior tax year, you will need to file Form 8978 to figure any additional taxes (or refund) due. You'll need to complete the form manually and mail separately to the IRS. Here's the IRS link for the form and instructions: About Form 8978.   There is no other way to handle this issue, sorry.

I have a couple of K-1's which reported some gains in Part III box 2 and also a little bit interest income in Part III box 5.  The interest income gets reported in Schedule B and also in NJ-Bus-2.  It gets taxed once for interest and gets taxed second time at 50% in NJ-Bus-2.  Is there a way to adjust this so it will only be taxed once?

You can enter your 1099-G from unemployment by selecting the following: Federal Income Unemployment and Paid Family leave Then on the screen to enter the amount you received put a checkmark in the box that says federal or state income tax was withheld.  You will get a drop down to enter the amount or you will enter it on the next screen depending on which version of TurboTax you are using.

When you're entering the sale into the rental section you will be asked questions about the use of the home.  Two years out of the last five qualifies for a partial exclusion.  The system will walk you through that.   The other home sale should also qualify for a partial exclusion.  Enter all of the dates and there will be questions about moving and whatnot.  The system is set up for that as well.   @Jren25

The instructions for form 8962 state "Do not include the modified AGI of dependents who are filing a tax return only to claim a refund of tax withheld or estimated tax."     It does matter as it contributes to the household income figure that is used to calculate the premium tax credit (PTC) entitlement.  Generally you want your household income lower for a higher PTC entitlement.

Your ranting post makes very little sense, but I suspect that you chose to pay your TurboTax fees from your federal refund and now the refund has either been delayed or seized by the IRS for back taxes or child support you owe.  If that is what happened, the IRS will be sending you a letter to explain why your refund was offset.   If you chose to pay your fees from a federal refund, you also signed and agreed that if your refund was not issued or was delayed, that TurboTax could take its fees from your account.       TURBOTAX TOOK MONEY OUT OF MY  ACCOUNT Did you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund?  Is your refund taking an unusually long time to arrive?  Or was your refund seized to pay a debt you owed? if so, you signed an agreement that says TT can withdraw its fees from your account.  TurboTax would have sent several emails to you before they took the money out of your account.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/bank-account-auto-debited-turbotax-fees/L3rDdVynu_US_en_US?uid=m6bdgedq   TURBOTAX SAYS: How do you justify debiting my account? The provision is spelled out in the Pay With My Refund Agreement, which you agreed to when you opted to pay with your refund. In addition, by clicking the "I Agree" button below, you electronically sign and authorize Intuit (through its third party processor) to debit the TurboTax Fees, Additional Products and Services Purchased and any applicable sales tax from your bank account number identified in the Agreement below, in the event that you do not receive a tax refund that is sufficient to pay for them.       How can I see my TurboTax  fees?      https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/review-fees-turbotax-online/L1XnIzgzg_US_en_US?uid=m682vq7k

Hello!!  My daughter is an Illinois resident but in  2024 she had a summer job in Minnesota.  Illinois and Minnesota are NOT "reciprocal" states.  I know that my daughter files as a permanent resident of Illinois and she is filing her Illinois state return.  Here is my question:  Is she REQUIRED to file a return with Minnesota as well, or can she choose not to (if she doesn't want to try to reclaim some of the tax collected)?  Thanks so much!!
