@Dude3145 Did you get the manual update from TurboTax as suggested?

2 Cheers
It’s working for me now (online version)! I didn’t have to redo my entire tax return to get the form to trigger.

The TurboTax question on my 1099R: "Did you move this money from a 401(k) to a Roth 401(k)? This includes rollovers from a regular 401(k), 403(b) or 457(b) plan to a designated Roth 401(k), 403(b...

" The option does not include the fact that we moved money from a 457b to a Roth IRA (Roth conversion). Should I say yes, because it was moved from a qualified plan to a designated Roth? On the 1099R box 7 is marked as G, as it was in-plan rollover from 457(b) to a Roth IRA. Thanks!

@Opus 17 ok this is much cleared. Appreciate the thoroughness from your end. I visually see now how we are clearing out form 5329 so that there is no longer excise of 6%. Additionally, with what you are saying, I now see by changing to "normal distribution", on 8889, the "excess" was showing up in line 14a AND 14b, but 14b should be zero because it states to include any excess contributions that were withdrawn by the due date, which I did not do. I think where I was getting hung up on was the way in which the 1099-SA was done by Healthequity which was then creating the issue of no additional income tax being triggered nor the 20% since it was throwing the distribution in line 14b of 8889, which as stated was not withdrawn by the due date. THANK YOU! Last question for you. Do you think it matters that the IRS will get a 1099-SA that shows box 3 with code 2 excess contribution but for my return, when i entered 1099-SA, i changed box 3 to be "normal distribution"? That seems to be the only way to get the software to do what it needs to do from a form standpoint but then there is a general mismatch. My gut says why would the IRS care in this case since i am remitting both income tax and the 20% penalty.

TurboTax doesn't pay any federal or state taxes on your behalf.
If you selected the option to have your state taxes owed directly debited from your bank account, that payment information was transmitted with your electronically filed state return. The state revenue agency processes the debit according to the details you provided. Please note that not all states withdraw funds on the exact date requested.
The method you chose to pay your state taxes can be found on the Filing Instructions page included with your state tax return.
To view/print your TurboTax Electronic Filing Instructions Page with your direct debit information, please follow these steps after you have filed:
Sign in to TurboTax
Scroll down to Your Tax Returns & Documents
Select 2025 and then Add a State (You aren't actually adding a State but this gets you back into the Print Center)
Select Tax Tools, scroll down and select Print Center
Select Print, save or preview this year's return
Select the 2025 Federal and/or State return box
Choose to Include government worksheets
Select View or Print Forms.

In your case the tax bill that you had was around $700. Once it reduces that to zero the rest gets moved into next year. It can't be added to your refund.

I have never reported the qualified dividend portion on my foreign income as an adjustment to the total income, only having discovered how to do that now. Can I choose to not report it, since it is in my favor? Does the IRS really care about it? Can I start reporting it now on my 2025 return, never having reported it previously?

If you owe back taxes, the IRS will offset your 2025 refund and apply as much of your refund as it takes to pay the back taxes. TurboTax will not have any information regarding this. The IRS will send you a letter after they process your return and offset the refund. If the refund is more than you owe, you will receive whatever is left of the refund after they apply the refund to your debt.

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:
Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu.
Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website.
Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms.
Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit."
Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.
Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.

Yes. Follow these steps:
Open to the federal income section to solve your state problem.
If you have a1099-B:
locate your Accrued Market Discount and uncheck the box and let's enter it another way.
Before you leave that section, adjust the cost basis up by the AMD to avoid double taxation.
Create or edit for a 1099-INT:
Select your 1099-INT and step through the entries.
If you are creating the form, enter AMD and broker for the name. Enter the AMD in box 3.
After entering the form, see Tell us if any of these uncommon situations apply
select I need to adjust the interest reported on my form
Enter you accrued interest paid as a positive number
In the dropdown menu, select My accrued interest is included in this Form 1099-INT

I agree this is a major Turbo tax input and software problem. I have spent 4 hours with two different analysts at TT and if we input the two separate 1099s from the brokerage house (this year the sent a 1099 for the amount distributed to me which was taxed and a 1099 for the amount of the QCD) even using the Code 7 for the QCD amount TTax calculates a huge penalty on the Form 5329. (my QCD was about 1/3 of the RMD) On this last call the analyst opened an investigation after seeing how it is not working properly. The more people who call the faster they will fix it. I don t want to jerryrig 1099 entries and red flag to the IRS. I agree with those concerns expressed here. on TT wHen I click help and don't get any info after a few inputs I get an option to call with a support ID number. I usually wait 10-20 minutes this time of year or they will do a call back. I have premier TT this year. Hope this helps other people.

I am confident there's an error in the 2025 TurboTax Deluxe desktop software: - I entered two 1099-R forms, one for pension distribution (all taxable) and a second form for a direct rollover from a 401(k) to an IRA (box 7 code G, non-taxable). - the second 1099-R also reported a direct rollover from the same IRA into a Roth IRA and correctly reported that amount in box 2a (taxable). - TurboTax included the pension distribution on 1040 line 5b (taxable amount) from the first 1099-R, but did not add the taxable amount from box 2a on the second 1099-R. This is a serious problem. I've already submitted (filed) my taxes and now must amend the return, but I can't find a way to override line 5a on form 1040 with the correct total. What should I do?

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it. It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner. The IRS does not allow you to take it back.
If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.” The changes will go nowhere.
Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.
Sometimes—not always— the IRS corrects your mistakes, while they are processing your return.
If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally. You will need to use a form called a 1040X.
Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself. Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed
The Form 1040X is scheduled to be available on February 26. The date is subject to change, so check on 2-26 to see if it is ready. Before that, do not change anything at all on your return.
