I followed your instructions: There was no question under "Qualified" plan "Was any part of this distribution non-taxable because it was a retroactive VA disability award?". Dead end, so far? Help?

I have a Schedule K-3 which reports foreign taxes paid but no foreign income. When I input the K-3 details into TT I get this error: "Total foreign taxes paid (line P) or foreign tax accrued has an amount listed but no entry has been made for foreign gross income or foreign sourced income at the individual level on the K-1 Additional Information worksheet line 1." This is preventing me from claiming a substantial foreign tax credit. I didn't have any foreign income last year so I'm expecting to carry over these credits for future use. From reviewing the instructions for Form 1116, I'm pretty sure I qualify. I've checked with the partnership that generated the K-3 and they agree. Does anyone know how to get around this? Any advice is much appreciated.

Sorry for the delayed response. I was out of town until yesterday. I revisit the Tax Underpayment Penalty section I click to Reduce Tax Penalty I leave 2024 Tax blank per instructions as I was not a full year resident in 2024 (not even part year) TT Tells me I owe a penalty I respond that I will pay amount due by April 15 Takes me back to Other situations list. I never get to a reason for filing to be able to select annualized income. Any other suggestions?

I, too, entered the correct 2024 AGI. The Federal and the associated State of Kansas submissions are rejected. I see answers that suggest to enter "0" or snail mail it. No advice explained what to do about the money that was sent to IRS on my credit card and the Intuit fee for the state submission both being collected again. Please point me to a more comprehensive answer and settlement.
Thank you.

Thank you. I did find that and have filed my extension by that method. However the desktop version of TurboTax still does not allow filing online. That is a bummer for me.

@DC3 There has always been a fee to efile state from the Desktop program. Years ago it may have been 14.95 then 19.99, now it is $20 or 25 to efile. Except in NewYork it is free. Did you move from NY? You may have had the fee deducted from a federal refund so you forgot about it since you didn’t enter a credit card. Or you may have mailed the state return to avoid the efile fee.

If 2025 was the year you reached age 73, the IRS allows you to delay your very first RMD by the April 1, 2026. You do not report the 2026 withdrawal as income on your 2025 tax return. Instead, you will enter a zero (0) when prompted about the RMD due by December 31, 2025.
Next year, when you receive your Form 1099-R, the form will include both the RMD you took in Q1 (for 2025) and the RMD you took later in the year for 2026.
However, if you were already required to take RMDs in previous years, but missed the December 31, 2025 deadline, you must file Form 5329 with your 2025 return to request a waiver of the excise tax (penalty) for the late distribution.

For TurboTax Desktop tax year 2025, filling out California form 3840, for Part III line 10 there is error checking to ensure the sum of Part III line 10 is the same as Part I line 8. However, this is not necessarily the case if multiple properties are involved in the exchange and more than one copy of form 3840 is needed to list them all out. If this is the case, it seems TurboTax is blocking from filing based on an error in the software.

It happened to me on my new laptop. Once I downloaded Adobe Acrobat, I was then able to see my amended 1040x form and print it. There's an adobe link just above the buttons where you print/save it.

I'm using Online Premium version. The bug does seem to be partially fixed, but TT is still giving the wrong answer. The flow now makes sense. I enter the 1099-Q, then go through the 1098-T flow and it allows me to enter Room and Board and other education expenses in addition to the 1098-T tuition and fees. The problem is that when I dig through the forms to see why my taxes didn't calculate correctly, I see that in Part VI education expenses for the student (dependent), the qualified education expenses appear correctly, but Turbo tax is subtracting $10,000 from the 529 column on row 18 despite the fact that I wasn't eligible for any other credits. So, total qualified expenses can now be entered, but TT is arbitrarily limiting them by subtracting $10,000. I've seen in other posts that there should be a screen to adjust the "Amount Used to Calculate Education Deduction or Credit" to zero because I'm not eligible for education credits, but this screen does not seem to exist in the Online version. Of course, I could just not enter the 1099Q or inflate education expenses by $10k to make this net out, but that seems to defeat the purpose of filling out these worksheets to have an accurate record behind the calculations. Any thoughts?
