why does turbo Tax not work for partial RMD accounts

TurboTax is designed to verify that the RMD for each specific Form 1099-R you enter has been met. This creates issues if you satisfied your total RMD by taking a larger distribution from one account and a smaller (or no) distribution from another.

When TurboTax asks di you "Take a Distribution of RMD", it is asking you to confirm whether the money you withdrew was intended to satisfy your mandatory yearly withdrawal.  If you have met your total RMD but the software is still showing a penalty, on the RMD screen for each 1099-R, select "The entire distribution was an RMD" and enter the distribution amount as the RMD for that specific account. This signals to TurboTax that you are satisfied with that account's withdrawal.
