According to the law, you are required to report all income. What will happen if you don't? Nothing.

Your parents paying the tuition does not disqualify a non-dependent student from claiming the AOTC.
But, there's a new urban myth among college students that says they can get a $1000 from the government just for filing a tax form. For most of them, they simply aren't eligible. A full time unmarried student, under age 24, even if you don't qualify as a dependent, is only eligible for the refundable portion of the American Opportunity Credit if he supports himself by working. You cannot be supporting yourself on parental support, 529 plans or student loans & grants. It is usually best if the parent claims that credit.
You cannot claim the (up to) $1000 refundable credit if you are, or can be, claimed as a dependent by someone else.

I am so confused. I purchased the product for $60.00 and now there is an e-filing fee of $40.00 that is charged by TurboTax on top of that initial purchase. Why was this not disclosed on the packaging?

No she doesn’t file her own return. You just amend your return to Joint and add her info to it.

So saved the previous data from what was there before I uninstalled it and so if 3000 was suppose to go to GA, they now have it as 6000 and I can't change that number. Its not a field that you can edit.

I'm trying to move forward in the filing process, but Turbo Tax is saying I have to put in at least 2 partners in the designated box because it's a partnership, but its an LLC

My son was hired by a research project funded by Saudi Arabia, so his paychecks come from there. No taxes of any kind were taken out. He made more than 14,000. We are unclear how to help him file his taxes. Can you tell us how he should file, what forms, etc? Thanks so much. He is 22 years old and a college senior. Thank you!!

If someone can answers questions regarding filing past tax return, I appreciate it very much. 1. I need to file tax year 2023. I bought turbo tax online and was granted extension but never finished. What do I need to do to finish it? 2. I mailed my 2022 tax return after deadline. The mailed return was 50 pages long. I googled see where to mail it. I think turbo tax said to mail it to the nearest IRS office, which in my case was Birmingham, Al. Month later, it was returned back to me? Do I mail it back again. Thanks

Yes, but it must be mailed as Turbo Tax only has that option. I just finished mine. Finish your taxes and figure out what you must pay...if you have to pay , to avoid the penalty, you then send your payment with the extension document , Form 4868, to the address on the form. You will have to have an idea of what the final amount of payment or refund is so you do not get a penalty. So, if you owe money, to avoid a penalty, send a check with the Application for Extension. If you have a refund, then just send the document. Must be done by 4/15/2025. Hope this works...it was very confusing to me!! Good luck.

Right but in the meantime until my return is fully processed and I can submit an amended return does she need to do anything? If she doesn't file by the deadline won't she get hit with late fees?

ALL of your 2024 W-2’s must be entered on the SAME tax return.
Go to Federal>Wages & Income to enter a W-2.
After you enter the first one, you click Add Another W-2.
