Nothing really happens if you submit it twice tax wise, it is just a form for them to issue you a 1099 at the end of the year basically and report your gross receipts to the IRS. It would be like if you had more than one job. As far as what Amazon does, you would have to check with them.
If you do have something wrong on your W9, when they send you your tax forms you would need to contact them with the correct information for correct reporting.
Thank you for the reply.
Yeah I always worry something really bad happens if I get a tax form number wrong.
It says "Verified and Accepted" and it was almost instant after I submitted and filled out the W9 with Amazon Seller. So I'm guessing they instant submit it somehow for verification to the IRS system? And confirm the match with my EIN and Legal Name?
I just always think that if I put a number wrong by accident they will say I did it on purpose or something and some issue will happen. Even though that's not the case of course.
Is there some huge fine if the number is wrong? I'm 99.999% sure it's fine, just my dumb OCD is making my anxiety bad this morning.
Thanks!
The sky will not fall on your head ... simply contact Amazon and ask how to correct the W-9 with them. The IRS never sees that form ... it is between you and the client only.
I read that it is verified though, like when it is submitted Amazon has an e-verification system with them. So it instantly submits to them for verification.
I think my info was correct though, I just have OCD, so I get anxiety when I have the "thought" that it is wrong.
Thanks
Verification thru the portal doesn't alert the IRS or SS admin at all ... this is similar to the old fashioned way of looking you up in the phone book to verify your address or phone number. Stop worrying.
It depends on what Amazon does with the form. They might overwrite the old information or might have two on file for you. When they say "verified" it could mean they verified it with the IRS or it could be a different kind of verification that Amazon does on accounts. That is really all Amazon process and you can check with them to learn exactly how they handle it.
However, if the IRS notices a mismatch between your return and the 1099s submitted for your SSN or EIN, they send you a letter and tell you exactly what they need for you to send them to resolve. They give you a deadline to respond and say what their adjustment will be if you do not respond. They also will include how to appeal. They send out millions of letters every year and it is a very routine process.
Ok thank you!
Yeah that helps to know if there is any error, that I will just get a letter and it won't become some big issue......... and I just have to resolve it etc.
I just hope if there is an issue Amazon doesn't just shut down my seller account forever or anything, that would not be ideal.
Thanks!
FIRST ... talk to amazon and see if there is an error to even fix.
And if amazon sends out a 1099 next year with the wrong info on it then THEY would get the IRS mismatch letter and THEY would have to deal with it which usually has them asking you for the correct info. SO ... just call them now to make sure everything is fine so you can stop worrying about everything.
